10/31/2002: Road protest

What you got there is tons of Frenchmen (and Frenchwomen too) lying in the middle of the road. Maybe it's a companion piece to the naked-in-the-road shots of Spencer Tunick? No, it's a protest, to bring attention to France's highway fatalities. Last week was national road safety week in France.

Those fucking foo-foo bastards...they like to bitch about everything. ;)

...and this is what happens when dave, tony and warren-t are all at their computers at the same time. :)

I'm lucky today...we have a nice lull here at work. People are so wrapped up in the holiday shit that work is falling by the wayside.

Hey, I don't mind making money hanging out at my 2nd favorite website in the world. :)

Except their Gauloises, which I'm sure are more lethal than any traffic statistic.

There's going to be even more fatalities if one of France's notoriously cantankarous truckers decides to use that road

French! The things you see when you don't have a steamroller.

I'm impressed. It's not often that you find this many people willing to...ummm...lay down for what they believe. Seriously, how often to you find people that are willing to protest anything en masse?

I want to know how this starts. I imagine people sitting around one day, when one of them runs up and says, hey got this great idea -- let's go lay in the street to stop people from dying in traffic accidents! ...and they all drop their croissants and rush to the nearest thoroughfare for some protesting. The next day, the ones that didn't get run over complain that they had a hard time sleeping on the cold, hard pavement, and how next time they need to bring some pillows. Maybe some blankets too.

I don't know. That's what I see.

The run-over jokes are funny, but I suspect even the French have outlawed running over un-shelled humans. So they're prolly pretty safe. Though I might suggest a front loader and a dump truck ...
