Homemade Cotton Candy

Pico and ME • Aug 22, 2010 11:20 am
Went to the State Fair the other day and had the most awesomest cotton candy. Instead of just being sweet, it actually had flavors, like blueberry, bubble gum and banana. Cotton candy is my weakness and finding it with flavors just made me want to have more - so, lo and behold, I found a recipe and a video. I haven't tried it yet, but I will soon.

Seems way too labor intensive. And the hot sugar is napalm. Don't forget that!

I always wanted one of the machines, but my mom would never let me get one. I'm told that even the machines are impossibly messy.

All of the seashore and fair cotton candy I've ever had has always been flavored. The Blue Raspberry is my favorite.

Yeah, it does look like it would take a long time to get any worthwhile amount. I still might try it. I love cotton candy just that much.

We call it candy floss.
And you can buy it in many corner shops.
I would never go to this much trouble!

Good luck if you go for it though.

BTW, hers looks like a spider's egg sac.
Just saying...

More like white phosphorus. It burns on contact, and will keep burning regardless of what happens afterward, underwater, wiped off, no matter. Molten sugar==Danger.

Good luck.

I also have a healthy respect for hot sugar. If you like cotton candy that much, maybe this machine would be a better route to go.

Cotton Candy machine from amazon

I really didn't want to invest in a machine. I was mostly curious if it could be made otherwise. I will try this method...with great care (Sound like I might even need to wear a hazmat suit:eek:).

Martha Stewart does it over a clothes drying rack.

My mom rented a big machine for a block party once, it was awesome, we were all covered in it...

i reached in to pull some out, and caught my finger on the little spinning around leather thinger.... tore me right open. it took a bout 3 seconds for the blood to well up from the chunk/flap of skin it loosened, so no blood got into the candy, thank fsm... but it hurt like purple hell.

...so that's my gory cotton candy story

I want a Kitchen Carnival - deep fryer, cotton candy maker and hot caramel dispenser!

LJ- EWWWWWW!
They sell "bloody" popcorn at Halloween cinema specials.
The bloody candyfloss hasn't reached our shores yet - I'll look out for it. And your finger. In with the hotdogs.

Oh man they make it look so easy and so good! I have a feeling if I tried to do that it would not end up that way. I am not the best confectionery!
