July 7, 2010: Public Toilets

xoxoxoBruce • Jul 7, 2010 1:11 am
Last year's winner for the best public toilets in America.

The entertainment at Shoji Tabuchi's Theatre goes beyond the stage and into the restroom. Visit the ladies' powder room and you've entered the lap of luxury. This restroom boasts wainscoting, live cut orchids at every granite and onyx pedestal sink, stained glass, chandeliers and a ceiling reproduced from the 1890's Empire Period.

The gentlemen's lounge is a treat as well, with black lion head sinks imported from Italy, black leather chairs, a marble fireplace, and yes, even a billiard room with a hand carved mahogany pool table.

- Antiques
- Lion’s head sinks

Why is it, when it comes to public bathrooms, the womens rooms are always these exotic lounges usually, and the mens is often this dingy dirty place you wish you had never set foot in? The womens usually has a couch and all kinds of fancy soap, usually a end table or small chair. The men get a few urinals and a couple toilets..that you would never want to touch unless your very life depended on it, the sinks are often out of soap and theres almost never any paper towels in the dispenser.. *sigh*

Maybe that is why there is a line for women's restrooms

ok, Mr or Mrs 17 posts in 8 years. You know lurkers give me the willies, right? So....your comparison and contrasting of the male/female restroom implies a certain sense of authority and familiarity with BOTH rooms....

you'd better be a janitor. That's all I'm sayin'

Which brings us back to why men's rest rooms are NOT like the women's..

I think we men are more concerned about getting the job done in the public washrooms and move on. Who cares for architecture and pleasures of posh sofa sets when all you need to do is pee [:)]

I love those oversized padded leather toilets in the men's room, but I'd rather have a little privacy. I wouldn't want to use them out in the open like that.

seems just a bit overdone.

hee hee at lj.

I would be pissed (ha!) if I had to take a dump and went into one of those fancy restrooms. Who cares what color the sinks are or from where they were imported? Who cares if there are flowers and a fireplace in there? I just want a toilet and, hopefully, some toilet paper.
What a mean thing to do: building a public restroom with no toilets! I'd just crap on their floor, out of spite.

A restroom like that needs its own champagne room.

The sofas are comfortable place to wait your turn at the billiard table.;)

Where are the comfy lounges for the women? All I see is that carved, uncomfortable as hell, settee. Why do the men get big luxurious, easychairs and women get wrought iron??

Psst...the men's urinals are probably on the other side of the billiard room.

Real men just pee in the billiard table's pockets.

The ultimate inequitable truth. "When you're a man the world is your urinal".

Law and custom both, are the answer. By law, many states require women's restrooms to have a sofa or other furniture that allows reclining.

By custom, women's restroom's are used for changing baby's diapers, and so require more cleaning.

I thought that's what the floor was for.
