Stupid Shit in the News

Kids are wound too tight. Remember when food fights were silly goofy things that lead to students mopping floors?

BINGHAMTON -- Students arrested during brawls outside the high school Thursday have been suspended pending superintendent's hearings that could lead to their expulsion from school.

District and high school officials are still investigating the details of the students' actions during the melee that escalated from a food fight in the cafeteria to brawls and confrontations between students, police and administrators outside the high school, Principal Albert Penna said.

Four adults -- two police officers and two assistant principals -- were injured. The most seriously injured was Associate Principal Martin Klein who was hit the face with a cell phone by a female student.

Must have been an old-school cell phone.
Griff • Jun 12, 2010 12:39 pm
I'm wondering if it was used like a roll of quarters in a closed fist rather than thrown?

Do you ever think that "they" are trying to engineer kids into soul-less zombies...perfect citizens in a corporate police state?
TheMercenary • Jun 12, 2010 6:04 pm
Yea, but now days they need to throw the female student in jail for a 30 days to make a point. She needs an education about our laws.

So you're saying they should freely allow group brawls between students?

Interesting sidenote: my high school's administrators once averted a 40-student standoff-soon-to-be-gang-fight in the cafeteria simply by ringing the bell early. Sure enough, the Pavlov response kicked in and everyone just dispersed to go to class.

No.

I know, let's put the girl who threw the cell phone in stocks in the front of the school and people can just come by and randomly stone her.... For a week.
HungLikeJesus • Jun 12, 2010 9:06 pm
I think it would be better to put her in stocks, put her cell phone just out of reach, and people can come by and randomly text her.
spudcon • Jun 12, 2010 10:46 pm
Napalm. Problem solved.

Heads -- in the vagina? Tails -- toss again for another orifice, and then again for left or right?
Flint • Jun 14, 2010 11:38 am
What are the left and right orifices?!

Left ...
CBS News anchor Katie Couric has long been considered a potential successor to King.

CNN, Please do not bring that POS back. What a farce that would be.

Right...
CNN announced that DISGRACED former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer (D) and conservative columnist Kathleen Parker would co-host a show on politics and current events.

Are you f*ckin kidding me? No wonder their ratings suck. Aside from Anderson Cooper, I can barely watch CNN anymore.
BOLD mine

ABC News' Ann Compton reports:

On the President’s first day back in the office from vacation, facing a deteriorating economic horizon, one Internet site is claiming he has returned to a newly redecorated Oval Office, complete with new carpets and drapes.

A White House spokesman tells ABC News the administration will have no immediate comment on the Drudge Report that “workers have been busy installing new carpets, drapes, painting, etc. in Oval Office.” But mediamatters.org, a progressive media watchdog site, has pounced, defending the Obama administration.

Under the headline “BREAKING: President Bush redecorated the White House,” mediamatters.org pre-buts any suggestion that a cosmetic face-lift would be what it calls “some sort of shocking waste of tax dollars.” It recalls the Bush administration upgrades including an expensive sunburst carpet designed by then-First Lady Laura Bush.

When the Obamas first arrived last year, the President declared he liked the carpet and saw no need for immediate redecorating.

The President has a prime time address scheduled Tuesday evening from the Oval Office on the end of combat operations in Iraq, but under traditional White House protocol, the network television camera will be allowed to focus only on the President at his desk, without wider angle views of the office drapes and furniture.

Is that really news? Man must be a slow day. :eyebrow:

My parents' newspaper had a columnist commenting on a photo of Obama
looking stressed and drawn (apparently) while on vacation recently. Apparently Mrs Thatcher blossomed in office - some people even considered her sexy. But poor old Obama is on the brink already - his Presidency is already in decline and he will be out in two years.

In the sort of volte face you only get in tabloids, they also managed to denigrate Hilary Clinton for NOT looking old and wrinkled. Apparently those who lust for power and get off on it (ie meglomaniacs or somesuch) can thrive under those conditions. But it smugly surmised that she was unelectable because of this.

ETA - trying to find the article I was referring to (I couldn't) I came across this one. It made me laugh out loud. What will we do when Prince Philip dies?
Picking up on the theme, Mr Obama told the royal couple: “I had breakfast with the Prime Minister, I had meetings with the Chinese, the Russians, David Cameron...and I’m proud to say I did not nod off in one of the meetings.”

It was then that Philip replied: “Can you tell the difference between them?”

Buckingham Palace officials insisted that he had merely been observing that after such a busy schedule there was a danger that one meeting would merge into another in the President’s mind.

There may be more wisdom in Prince Philip's question than his mouthpieces at Buckingham Palace gave him credit for. At his age, he probably doesn't give a shit.
ZenGum • Sep 3, 2010 9:18 pm
He never did. He has a long record of saying stupid shit that would get any sackable person sacked. Lucky (for him) he married the Queen.

One of the current events programs ran this story a couple of weeks ago.

Click on the link for the full-story-transcript, film, comments etc... but in a nutshell what it amounts to is that the Tanna people of Vanuatu "revere Prince Phillip as the human form of an ancestral spirit from the island, who, according to a prophecy, emerged from a volcano and travelled overseas to marry a queen."

Rooney sleeping with a prostitute.
Right before an important game.

Couldn't they at least have waited until afterwards to release the "story"?
Why do they hate England?
