Identify this painting.

I'm trying to find the artist behind this painting... Not much to go on, other than the small image, I'm afraid.

Trying to help a friend. Normally, I'd go to my sister, for such things, as she's quite the art boffin, but, she's hard to get ahold of, these days; so I've come here, in the hopes of finding someone to help.

I shall hang my head in shame, if it's an obviously world-renowned artist, and a world-famous painting. :thepain:

I actually looked that up, thinking my girlfriend's dad was just playing a mean trick on her.

(He's the one who asked her to find ((by any means)) the artist of the aforementioned painting.)

You, sir, will receive anthrax, in the mail! :greenface

(I'll bet secret service agents will swiftly be crashing through my windows, and spiriting me away to some secret location, under the misguided belief that my humourous threat was, in fact, a threat to the national security of America!)

reminds me a bit of Tamara de Limpicka's style in some ways.
I'll ask Homesquirell tomorrow. Art history degree and all that.

It also has a little of the Thos. Hart Benton look to it as well. MAybe this is from the same time period? 1920's -early 30's

That's the time period I thought - Found the style similar to some used within the "Group of Seven." (Canadian Artists... That would suit the theme, being that my girlfriend is Canadian... and her dad likes being a tricky bugger.) They were primarily landscape artists from the 1920s, too.

Thanks for the assistance, one and all. :)

Also similar to some Georgia O'Keefe.

I'd also put it in the 1930's.

It is similar to some of Ross Dickinson's work. A lot of artists were using that style then.

This is Mount Thule by Lawren Harris from 1930.

I just figured it was a Lawren Harris painting myself and came here to post it and you scooped me. Well done.

Edit: And while you got the artist right, the painting is actually Bylot Island, recently sold for $2.8M.

Did I do something wrong when I tried to post the picture?

Thank you.

They are incredible works - I would love to see them in the 'flesh'.

Then you shall share the anthrax. >=/

As for the non-anthrax-infected... Thank you. You've all been a tremendous help!

Also, thank you for reaffirming my faith in my ability to discover. I just knew it was Lawren Harris... but I searched through a sizeable amount of his works, and found nothing that EXACTLY matched it.

Thank you! :)
