Get well soon.

Just have to have a driver , then go back next day. Then about 1 week later.
My first driver was one of the Sanders boys that I posted a photo on their Moms birthday a year or so ago. He had a bad heart attack 2 weeks ago. Pat, a nurse friend will take me on 26th. Someone I hope other days.
More on hardheaded dog later.

Usually very straightforward surgery. momwolf was very surprised at how she was able to perceive colors after hers were done. Enjoy the meds. The light anesthesia they use for cataracts has a side effect of memory loss, so you'll probably not recall the actual surgery, even though you're up and talking throughout. Enjoy the post-procedure ginger ale and cheese and peanut butter crackers. Best of luck!

My grandmom had one eye done and not the other. She'd cover one eye and say "everything looks blue", then cover the other eye and say "everything looks brown".

Best wishes, Buster!

About 30 years ago when I was living in Vermont an elderly widow neighbor of mine got cataract surgery after god knows how many years of progressively losing her sight.

When she got back home she was astounded and infuriated to see how dirty/ grimy her house was. She had a mild freak out and all the local ladies came over and pitched in for a few days to get things spic and span again.

There was mortification all around. Everyone felt responsible in their own way for letting things get to that state. Once it was done no one talked about it again.
jinx • May 22, 2010 1:43 pm
I'm definitely gonna try that.
ZenGum • May 23, 2010 1:03 am
I had a traumatic cataract in my right eye, which was fixed with the surgery. It's really simple and straightforward.

Thing is, you will actually come out with super vision. You will be able to see a colour normal people cannot see.

No kidding, the human retina can detect visible light but is damaged by UV light. So the lens blocks out UV light, but it also blocks a tiny bit of the visible spectrum, right at the violet end. The artificial lenses don't block this. You should be able to see it. I call it superviolet ... between violet and ultraviolet.
It is very hard to notice it, though. I only really notice it if I am in a nightclub or such where they have blacklights that make people's clothing fluoresce. The blacklights are sometimes just inside the superviolet range. They can be painfully bright.

Occasionally I notice that objects look different colours when I look through one eye or the other.
The only other thing is that you have to wear sunnies whenever you go outside, even in cloudy weather, because there is always stray UV bouncing about, which causes retinal sunburn (aka snow blindness). Just tell people you are medically cool.

Once in a while, an old woman will say that the surgery gave her wrinkles. After all, she didn't see any wrinkles before the surgery, so...

Modern interoccular lens (iol) implants block ultraviolet light. There's still light sensitivity because the iol is clearer than a ntural lens.

Went back yesterday for my day after check-up. Dr said all was well. Have to return on 6/3/10 for another check. W/new glasses I think will be great.
Oh crap. I just read this.
What are the symptoms of retinal detachment?
Symptoms include a sudden or gradual increase in either the number of floaters, which are little "cobwebs" or specks that float about in your field of vision, and/or light flashes in the eye.

busterb • Jan 24, 2011 8:13 pm
TNXS. All is well. About 20/20 in each eye. Right eye has an astigmatism, which leaves it a little off. Checkup the 18 of month to remove stitch and check for glasses, don't think they'll give me any.
Maybe it's a redneck thing, but I've heard folks say, "Going to have cataracts taken off." Hey they're not on outside of the eye. I thought that till I talked with the Dr.

A person can have a bunch of problems with cataract surgery.
I'm happy as a pig in shit. Although I still hunt my glasses at times.

Eye surgery

They put a gas bubble, laughing gas, in right eye the 23rd. OK next day. 27th not so good.
Back in AM, 28th for another try. Think she said something about freezing?
Am I having fun? You bet!
BB
Injecting air or gas into your eye. A procedure called pneumatic retinopexy involves injecting a bubble of air or gas into the vitreous. Over the next several days, the gas bubble expands, sealing the retinal tear by pushing against it and the detached area that surrounds the tear. With no new fluid passing through the retinal tear, fluid that had previously collected under the retina is absorbed, and the retina is able to reattach itself to the back wall of your eye. Depending on where the retinal detachment is located in your eye, you may need to hold your head in a certain position for several hours in order to keep the bubble in place.

OK. Here's the scoop.
The 28th lady Dr. did cryo-surgery. They gave me a deep pain killer shot. As she was starting, She said" Hope this doesn't hurt too much."
I said " Hold up, we better have alot more going for us than hope."
Nurse said "That's a good line." Me "It's no damn line."

Today, the 1st, she did the cryo again. without the deep pain killer. Boy, the fun went south quick!
Was asked about spending the night as guest of UMC. Which means back to OR.
No thanks, I need someone to look after my pets.

So the 5th I need to have a driver, because I might go back to OR.

I did get a face down pillow today. I can also wash my hair, not washed since the 23rd.

I'm so tired of this crap, knocking shit over on table. Hell I've spilled more beer than drank.
Gladwrap, ezy-open resealable packages are so much fun.

I have a couple of ideas of how to show my Dr. how pain is relevant. Don't think either one will win FDA approvement.
One includes the dog's E-collar. That's enough, someone might steal my ideas.
BB
Now I have to edit this to send to Sis.

Sorry to hear this, B. Cataract surgery probably didn't cause your problems. Either the problem was there, but couldn't be detected because of the cataract, or the problems developed after the surgery. It sounds like your current problems are all about the retina, at the back of the eye, and cataract surgery takes place pretty far to the front of the eye. All the best.

Yes. It's confusing because the other "eye doctor" is an Optometrist, with no "h". I love it when someone comes in to see the Obstetrician.:D Yes, it's not uncommon. Close enough, they all start with "O", right?

I see it just the opposite way.
As millions more people become insured with a relatively static number of doctors, waiting will only increase, not decrease.
monster • Feb 8, 2012 10:53 pm
So insurance should be made less attainable so those who are insured can be seen more quickly?
classicman • Feb 8, 2012 11:39 pm
Is that really what you got out of my post?
monster • Feb 8, 2012 11:52 pm
No, that was a question related to what I learned from your post.

Which was that you believe that more people insured and no more doctors (assumption not mine) = longer wait times.

The obvious extrapolation leads to my question. I'd be delighted to learn of any alternate extrapolation and indeed any better way forward.
classicman • Feb 8, 2012 11:54 pm
you believe that more people insured and no more doctors = longer wait times.

Correct. That is where it ends. You do the math.

So voting "the opposite way" will do what to alleviate the problem?

How will that reduce/not increase wait times?

Are you saying that "voting the opposite way" will lead to fewer people having insurance, so those who have it will wait for less time? And if so, do you believe that is a good thing? And for whom? And if not, how to you see that "the opposite way" to voting Democrat is going to help? Or do you just think it can't make it worse?

Here, Buster is going through the VA. Maybe you are trying to say that if more people have government based insurance, the VA service will get worse? I'm not sure they necessarily use the same services, but I'm happy to be corrected on that.

No, I'm not saying any of that. Sheesh.
I am not the one who made the claim that voting Democratic will reduce wait times. Perhaps your questions will be better answered by the poster who inferred it would.

Here, Buster is going through the VA. Maybe you are trying to say that if more people have government based insurance, the VA service will get worse?

Maybe it will.
Who do you think will pay more to hire doctors after millions more are added to the system?
Who will be taking the lowest paid positions? and why?

classicman;793968 wrote:

Who will pay more? More than what/whom?

If, by "millions more added to the system", you mean more people covered by government medical insurance, and if by "pay more' you mean who will fund it, then I think that if extra doctors are hired, it will be funded by the taxpayers. But you made the assumption that the number of doctors would remain the same. You are moving the goalposts.

Who will be taking the lowest paid positions? and why?

which lowest paid positions?
classicman • Feb 9, 2012 1:20 am
I am referring to doctors ... Who will pay more for doctors after millions more "insureds" are added to the system?
Because millions more will be added to the system - of that there is no doubt.
But you made the assumption that the number of doctors would remain the same. You are moving the goalposts.

Where are new doctors coming from? No goalpost movement whatsoever. Its the same issue.
Who will pay more for the doctors services, the Gov't or private institutions?
which lowest paid positions?

The lowest paid medical positions for the doctors.
Again, which doctors will take the lowest paid positions? Why?

"a relatively static number of doctors"
"Where are new doctors coming from?"

No new doctors if the number is static.
>>> moving the goalposts

Who will pay more for the doctors services, the Gov't or private institutions?

I would think the taxpayers. (Who are also the beneficiaries)

The lowest paid medical positions for the doctors.
Again, which doctors will take the lowest paid positions? Why?

The newest doctors, presumably. Because they will get paid.

Big Sarge • Feb 9, 2012 9:01 am
BB - I know how the waiting sucks. Ya'll, the VA is simply overwhelmed with so many patients. Plus they are used as teaching hospitals, which further burdens them. My biggest complaint is I never see the same doctor twice & then it is a non-native speaking resident. The language barrier really sucks

Update. Without the glaze of 100 proof on my 1/2 ass good eye, which I now think has a pin hole.
I had a touch of pneumonia back in March. Still no luck with my eye. I have an appointment with the head of Ophthalmology on the 23rd. He called last week and said, I could get a second opinion from somewhere else,
and they would call me last Monday or Tuesday. Never happened. I've been politicking to make this happen.

So we'll see this week.

They did fix my old hearing aids and gave me a new pair.

Nothing else worth sharing.
BigV • May 22, 2012 10:41 pm

V at this time drinking the famous bird. Not a great scotch, but I'm por folks.
So. I saw the chief eyeball DR. at VA the 23rd. Boy was he slick. He sang me a verse of how great I is. And told me how lucky I was that I could see out of my right eye.
After 5 surgery's. Anyway I let him cancel my next app. for retina DR. and have spent all day trying to reinstate that. I really want to hit on her again, NO. BTW I still have the second opinion thing, I hope

Hopefully, there's no hole in your macula.

The increased pressure in your eye is glaucoma. The pressure will kill the nerves in your retina, and they're the ones that allow you to see. The drops lower your pressure. Use the drops. It may be a pain in the ass, and they may have side effects, but if you don't use them, YOU WILL GO BLIND.
