Tall? You may be at risk

Maybe you thought that tall guys get all the breaks. Many women prefer tall men, and they can always reach that thing-a-ma-jig at the top back of the closet. Well take heart all you shorties out there. Tall men have higher risk of clots.

Being immobilized after surgery or sitting for long periods on flights can increase the risk of developing dangerous blood clots, as can certain lifestyle-related factors, such as smoking and being obese. Now, studies have found a correlation between height and clot risk, but the association has only been observed in men. Tall men, those measuring six feet (181 centimeters) or taller, appear to be at greater risk of developing venous thromboembolisms than those who are shorter. It is unclear why this is the case, but some speculate that venous stasis, a condition in which the normal flow of blood through a vein is slowed or halted, could increase the potential for clotting.

Anecdotal evidence only.
My Dad is just over 6 foot and developed a blood clot on his lung. However this was following surgery, so it may not even be useful anecdotally...

Maybe it's because tall men are more likely to have no fucking leg room whatsoever on trips?

Actuarial tables have long said that tall people have shorter lives.

Being tall is good in a crowd, and is probably good in most social interactions. But it is a liability everywhere else. It's best to be average height. Things are designed for average people.

Good news for me. I'm about as average as you can get.

Lefties also enjoy a shortened life span:sniff:

No, average people are not 5 feet tall. Toilets, sinks, countertops, and cellars are designed for 5 footers. Tall men develop back problems and lumpy heads as well as leg clots because we're always bending and squatting.

bollocks. They're just fine if not a little tall for me and I'm 5'4". They're designed for people around 5'6" I'd say, which is about average. Maybe tall men are just more whiny and likely to get bitch-slapped to death?

You seem a little short tempered today.
Are you mad you can't get on the good rides?

Jus sayin.

Except in Japan where the kitchens are designed for bloody midgets, I swear.

huh? I'm 5'4", not 4'4" and you're right, my supply of patience for dickwads is all used up. Come back tomorrow.

I'm 5'5 and I still hate my kitchen.

Perhaps your parent's kitchen was mean to you as a child?

For once I'm on the correct side of the curve. I'm a 5'2" male and I can tell you for a fact that most things are designed for taller people. Urinals, thermostats, cabinetry, peep holes are all made for someone at lest 6" tall than me.

tall people can see your bald spot

Yeah, but they're gonna die so they can't tell anyone about it.:haha:

5'5"? That's funny. You post much taller.
jinx • May 12, 2010 2:06 pm
Really? How much taller?

Pat thought I was much shorter, based on pictures taken by Jim.
squirell nutkin • May 12, 2010 3:18 pm
I was thinking 5'8" or 5'9"
