YouTube Comments

After all these years, I am no closer to understanding how the Comments section of a YouTube page works.

Almost every time: the topmost comment is a reply to something that I see nowhere on the page. It is nowhere "below" the reply, so...it must be "above" it? When I hit "2" it does in fact add more comments to the top of the page, "above" the reply. But--not a whole "page" worth, just a few more (do the "pages" ever roll over?). Presumably, hitting "3" and "4" etc. would eventually lead you to the chronologically first reply...right?

Question: why wouldn't the OLDEST or EARLIEST comment be on PAGE ONE??? I don't understand the concpet of how this is supposed to work, or what constitutes a "page" in this system. Try as I might, I cannot comprehend how these comments are ordered, or how to create a narrative of what is being said. Am I actually that stupid, or is this a broken system?

this would be a good thing to post in the youtube help forum

except that it is already there, and youtube could give a fuck.

Well, my question about Youtube comments is this: how is it that semi-literate morons with no life can work a computer and have any success at all using modern technology?

A mate from the Big Finish forums has a YouTube channel where he posts a lot of Doctor Who related stuff...he also puts other stuff on there. One of his home vidoes that has nothing to do with Doctor Who got a really nasty comment from someone demanding to know why he was posting non-Who material? Then got very abusive and had to be blocked :P

I had a video of my son playing with a catapult and a video of my daughter playing with a motor, and two different jerks posted negative comments up there for each of them. It's disappointing that there are losers like that in the world. What kind of person goes to a stranger's home movies and criticizes them?

Oh and to answer your question...people from pd.

We got a couple of those as well. We've seen how some folks handle anonymity here in the small community on the cellar...

You can delete them though, right? I've never tried, but I know you can block a user from commenting, so I figured surely you can delete their comments as well.

Yep. It is just a little shocking when a warm family moment gets assaulted.

Wow - I've lucked out!
No negative comments so far.

I've had quite a few PMs regards Singapuras though.
Need to get my new Singa vids up to date in fact...

yeah I got that too. How bad does your life need to be that you feel the need to do that?

They're called trolls and the populate every available comments section on the web. They live for attention/reaction, good, bad, or ugly.

Another idea would to make the video private. That way you can personally choose who you want to see the video.

Not if you're trying to share it with the cellar....

Haha. It was an open suggestion. No need to try to show me up of how it's not the best idea in a particular situation.
