A convicted killer in Utah today chose to be executed by firing squad, a method only rarely used in that state and banned almost everywhere else in the US.

Ronnie Lee Gardner, 49, murdered a lawyer and has been on death row for 25 years. He faces execution by five volunteers (who would be police officers) on June 18, having been given the choice of the firing squad or a lethal injection.

I wonder if I asked, they would shove me off a cliff or a tall building?

I'm afraid of needles AND guns.
ZenGum • Apr 23, 2010 10:20 pm
If the guns are touching the skin, it could still count as a lethal injection.

I would want to go the painkillers, booze, and satin sheets route.

I'm laughing.

Someone should have approached his choice that way.

The choice of a tiny pinprick or riddled with large fragments that will tear you apart.

I was always curious. When they give a lethal injection, do they follow the same sterile procedures that they do in administering a vaccine? And if so, why?
ZenGum • Apr 24, 2010 12:37 am
Apparently, yes, they do sterilise the injection site.
I guess it is just force of habit.

Oh, mods, cleanup in aisle five. Shawnee is being channeled by a spammer.

That would kind of freak me out, having a stalker following me around repeating what I typed.

I don't fear either one. But getting dropped off a tall building would confirm a fair-to-middlin' phobia.

I had to do it. The original stalker has been executed.

Good point. Maybe it was out of season.
And given how cops feel about (defense) lawyers, do you really think they'll get five volunteers to off the dude?

And spending 25 years on death row? These things shouldn't be rushed, but that's just silly.

maybe he was afraid of dying altogether and this is the compromise after therapy?
