Baby Dove Update On The Last Update

Gravdigr • Apr 19, 2010 1:45 am
The picture tells the story...:sniff:

They've left the nest. They've flown the coop. They're in the wind. They're on the wing. They. Are. Outtahere. Momdigr watched as the first of the two took off. She said it flew across the neighborhood and out of sight. Apparently, they hatch knowing how to fly. She said there were no false starts. Stretched his wings, hopped up on the edge of the planter, looked around, and was gone. The sibling was gone within an hour, leaving no witnesses to its departure.

I guess, in retrospect, that a hanging plant container 4 feet off the ground was a pretty good place to raise a family after all.:)

I promise, there was no squab served at Chez Gravdigr.;)

Well, I enjoyed seeing them from their beginnings.

Aww, it's sad they moved on.

As Andy Griffith would say "Don't the trees sound nice and full?"

She came back. Go figure.
classicman • May 6, 2010 3:57 pm
Wow - You sure it the same one?
Gravdigr • May 6, 2010 4:57 pm
Reasonably sure, head on one end, ass on the other, wings in the middle...
classicman • May 6, 2010 6:01 pm

What better symbol of peace and love,
Than a newly hatched baby dove.

(Before oohing and ahhing, you should know that my camera gave this pic the filename "100_0666". Devil Dove?)

ETA: Yes, it's alive. Hatched this morning, spotted by Momdigr. Maybe eight hours old in this pic.
classicman • May 13, 2010 1:27 pm
I, for one, welcome our new devil-dove overlord.
xoxoxoBruce • May 13, 2010 2:50 pm
I wonder if Mama Dove has killed the greenery in the center, or it didn't want to grow there?
Gravdigr • May 13, 2010 5:18 pm
Maybe it's hard to grow and flourish with a big, fat, pregnated dove sitting on you all the time?:D
xoxoxoBruce • May 13, 2010 8:46 pm
Yeah, I know some guys like that. ;)

Howd it get out there? Is it flying? Did the other egg hatch?

Lola Bunny • Jun 13, 2011 9:00 am
I was gonna say, "Awww...", but Ducks made a valid point. What happened in between?
casimendocina • Jun 13, 2011 9:10 am
I personally think that both are perfectly acceptable. Awwwwwwwwwwww3 from me and I too want to know what happened in between.
skysidhe • Jun 13, 2011 10:07 am

Well, let's see now...The eight-hour-old, infant, Devil Dove grew up and flew away over a year ago, and I haven't gotten so much as a post card from the ungrateful little bastard.

I spied Slick (my kitteh) stalking across the backyard at something, and found this little fella (most recent pic) sitting on the little fence/border around momdigr's flower garden.

Brought Slick inside (he did not want), and, went back a couple of hours later and the dovelet was gone.

As for what happened in between?

I got laid.
I smoked some dope.
I went real goddamned fast in a Buick LeSabre.
And I got a real goddamned big speeding ticket.

Well, those are the high points anyway.
