The midwest meteor/fireball

Did anyone else see it? I was in back on our deck when it came down. It was really bright, especially considering the distance it must have been from us in Chicago.

No, no! It means the End is near. It must have been quite a sight. We didn't get to see it out here.

There has been a couple of those reported in the last year.

I am hoping they are top secret anti-missile defense tests.

nah...probably something from planet x caring some sort of mutant germ.

I wasn't serious. I need to learn the art of joking via text.

I hadn't heard of this. Cool that a cop's dash cam caught it.

So many cameras now that even meteors need that face recognition camouflage paint.

Clearly the Dalek invasion is happening sooner than anticipated ...

I just wish my alien brethren would hurry and come back and pick me up.

We saw the space shuttle last night. Well, it really was just a jet gaining altitude. Then we saw a huge V of geese so far up...I've never seen them that high before.

I asked my friends "do you know why one end of the V is longer than the other?" They ignored me. Do you know why? More geese.

Sigh...story of my life.

Watch this version from the U of W Madison. Doesn't it seem like there's more going on than just a meteor? :tinfoil:

It could just be a delivery of hobos for ya.;)
Shawnee123 • Apr 15, 2010 11:33 am
*looks out back*

Yeah, they picked up all the old hobos.

Bri, get ready, a new shipment just came in. They'll be headed your way soon enough.

Not that I fall into the category, but they do it to reduce wind resistance.
Shawnee123 • Apr 15, 2010 2:43 pm
They fly in a V to reduce wind resistance.

One end is longer than the other because...

(wait for it)

More geese.

Ba dum dum

Well yeah, but I had to repeat it for our more challenged readers. I'm accommodating like that. ;)

Yes, but the crows fight and flock at dawn.
Shawnee123 • Apr 15, 2010 4:57 pm
psst: the blue dog flies at midnight.

Add in this fireball and you get a premeditated program for the destruction of the earth. It's a conspiracy by the racists.

Fixed it for you. :-)

With all the recent earthquakes, floods and now meteors, I think I'll just cash in my 401K and go to Vegas.
Cloud • Apr 15, 2010 6:21 pm
yep, a racist fireball, all right. It's white, isn't it?
TheMercenary • Apr 15, 2010 6:23 pm
I have no idea. I saw one in college back in the 70's and it was bluish green. Others were red.

:D I think not.....

It WAS a meteor! The weird thing is it didn't look like a streak like you usually see when they fall through the atmosphere.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/space/20100417/sc_space/meteorfragmentfromwisconsinfireballdiscoveredbyfarmer

A small chunk of rock believed to be a fragment from a meteor that burst into a stunning fireball over Wisconsin Wednesday night was discovered by a farmer after it fell on the roof of his shed.
The meteor fragment is peppered with gray, white and reddish minerals, though one side is covered in what scientists called a "fusion crust" – a layer of dark material forged during the meteor's fiery passage into Earth's atmosphere. It weighs just 0.2 ounces (7.5 grams) and is about 2 inches (5 cm) long and less than an inch wide.
