April 14, 2010: Scam Virus

If this image appears on your screen, it's a scam virus. Treat it accordingly.
If you click on it, you'll be redirected to a site that demands you pay $400 by credit card to settle up, and prevent being subpoenaed.
Don't do it.

These bastards are playing on the paranoia generated by recent lawsuits, and legislation, in the news. Ironically, they're in copyright violation by using the emblems of those trade groups across the bottom of the image.

I hate to get snarky but a give-away is the typo on "recieve" (sb "receive.")

Wow, where to begin? There are so many red flags here, it's rediculous. Aside from the spelling errors, what about grammatical inconsistencies? Ending one sentence with a period, but not ending the second with anything? Using the word "You'll" instead of "You will"? "Copyright fund has received report" and "You'll recieve subopena" are both missing an article, such as "a" or "the". And "You are seriously violating copyright" just doesn't sound right at all, maybe "You are in violation of copyright law"?

*sigh*

It's amazing what some people will fall for when fear sets in.

Well, it certainly is ridiculous. ;)

Your statue of limitations, then?

And yet some question why good grammar and spelling are important.

Based on the author's mistakes and writing style, anybody care to guess where he's from? I'm betting on Russia because when I read the message out loud, I'm reminded of Boris Badenov.

"We have received report on violation. Will give you subopena. Where are moose and squirrel?"

Why not. Statues are erected all the time.
