I've reconsidered

Spexxvet • Apr 1, 2010 8:51 am
After many back-and-forth posts, here, I've reconsidered my position on the welfare/unemployment issue.

Unemployment insurance and welfare are a direct threat to my ability to maximize my income. If there were no UI or Welfare, those workers who lost their jobs would have to either get another job, likely outside my profession, or they would starve to death. Either of these solutions would reduce the supply of opticians, causing me to be in higher demand, and a scarcer resource, thereby increasing my cost (wages).

It may seem to be a callous, selfish perspective, but it's a dog-eat-dog economic environment out there, and it's time that I look out for myself.

I'd like to thank Merc, UG, and all you other conservative posters who've convinced me of my folly.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go buy a handgun.

It's about time we ALL started thinking about Number One.

I applaud your flip to the other side. I would join you, but I'm busy attending tea parties.

Shit on both of you! I was just softening my position too.

Now I think if welfare stops that they'll all be flooding my profession and I'll be screwed!
Shawnee123 • Apr 1, 2010 11:10 am
You? They'll be here wanting more financial aid! Oh wait, they're already here. ;)

Clinton passed welfare reform in 1996. There was great gnashing of teeth and prediction of horrible results, etc.

In the following years, the unemployment rate fell, the crime rate fell, and the poor became obese.

I know! Weird, huh?

. . .

My cue to ignore any and all irony once again, I see. :3eye:

I recommend getting two handguns even to a huge hoplophobe, unless you'd rather rent a practice arm: one pistol in .22 for practicing all the fundamentals of good marksmanship, and the other pistol in the working/fighting caliber of your choice. There are many good ones, from the century-old .45 ACP to the very new .357 Sig.

And it's economic activity of the stimulative type, too...

One's phobias should not set one up to get murdered, robbed, or otherwise phuck'd with. That's just psychologically maladaptive. Not, as you know, something I approve of.

I have a phobia of funny-looking bullets.:D

It would make an awesome compact assault rifle cartridge. Perhaps rather heavy in quantity if loaded with the heavier 150-grain slugs... you can get them in 115 grain. A bottleneck cartridge like that feeds well at full auto. Straight-walled cartridges can be trickier, hence less reliable fed in a hurry.

Wiki on .357 Sig.
