Could someone explain haggis and hobos?

During one of my cellar hejiras some new memes were introduced and I never bothered to ask what they meant upon my return, assuming they'd become obvious to me with time.

They haven't.

What are the origins and meanings of "haggis" and "killing a hobo"?

Thanks.

I really believe that Bri started the hobo killing thing. Somehow it gets attributed to me, which I don't mind, I ran with it...but I'm pretty sure she was the originator of that meme.

Haggis? All me. I had just gotten my new cell, and I had predictive text turned on. I was trying to text "haha" but before I could hit the second h my cell predicted I wanted to say "haggis." I'm like "in what world, besides Scotland, would I have wanted to type haggis as way of everyday conversation?" And it did it for a long time, before it stopped predicting I wanted to say haggis.

I posted it in a thread...and it caught on.

:)

edit: if anyone can find the origin of hobo meme I'll send you a dollar. kthx

I googled it and got a hit for "did lady gaga really kill a hobo?" and the answer was that it was a hoax. But I was not interested enough to find out who lady gaga is.

the oldest search result with both 'hobo' and 'killed' in it here.

I think I got it from my friend Matt.... just something to say when you run out of answers. and uhm..... I killed a hobo. i like to employ it in polls.

Matt probably got it from the radio or some shit.

Oh that is so funny, because as I researched, er, I mean googled, all signs kept pointing back to you: I killed a hobo always being the alternative answer to most polled stuff.

There you go! :) Good find.

Comedian Craig Ferguson is lately running a reference to his studio audience as hobos on his TV show The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson in which he does a segment where he reads and responds to select questions by emails and tweets sent to him at craigferguson@cbs.com and http://twitter.com/Craigyferg respectively. For fun you might try sending him hobo related questions to see if he uses them on the show. He announces the senders first name, city, state, and country; so, be sure to include that with your question.

actual Email I just sent:

Dear Craig,

Thanks,

I think Shawnee suggested haggis (and now I know why) in a thread by UT called "Don't say LOL" or some such ...
I always thought to kill a hobo meant (here on teh Cellar) ... um ... to masterbate :o ...

I've always wondered about the phrase, "I killed a hobo," before but didn't want to ask. There were so many things that got me confused when I first came here. I didn't want to annoy the members by sounding like a 5 yr. old...."what does this mean, what does that mean?..." Hehe.....Anyways, I was around when haggis came to be so I understood that. :p:
