Then we'll vote on the best in each category. One point scored for each favorite pic.

The person with the most wins sets the next treasure hunt. In the event of a tie, the most total votes gets the honor.

1. Landmark
2. Mechanical
3. Food
4. Logo
5. Animal, Vegetable and Mineral

Take and post one picture in each of the above concepts/categories. No archived pictures allowed.

Everyone is encouraged to vote. Posting ends 11:59 on Sunday, 7th of March, Cellar time, and voting begins when monster gets around to creating those voting threads.

If you wanted to join in last time around, but didn't, this is your chance now.

Neither, it's seed.

take your vegetable/fruit/grain debate to another thread.

post pictures in this thread.

I was. In the rain. It was pissing down and freezing when I took that pic. I should get bonus points for that.

Great Photo!
Nirvana • Feb 28, 2010 10:00 pm
Corn is classified as a legume:

There are over 600 different kinds of legumes and more than 13,000 varieties. The term "legume" is used to describe plants whose seeds are enclosed in two-sided pods; sometimes the whole pod is eaten but most often, the seeds only are consumed. The most commonly-known legumes are lentils, string beans, dried beans, soy beans and peanuts.

Corn, on the other hand, does not really belong to the legume family; it is more of a cereal. But because of its composition, preparation and cooking methods, we tend to classify it as an appendix to legumes, with which it shares many similarities.

[/debate]

I grow many acres of it....;) on with the photos!

I've enjoyed browsing through the previous Treasure Hunts, and it's one of the reasons I decided to register. Some very impressive photos you folks have shared. Thinking I might like to participate if I can manage to capture a worthy pic. Is there a size limit, or preferred size? I gather images need to be uploaded to a web hosting site to be posted here, or is it possible to upload directly to the Cellar?
Clodfobble • Mar 1, 2010 12:22 pm
Click "Go Advanced" underneath the quick reply box, and you'll have many more posting options at your disposal. One of these is "Manage Attachments," and it will open a small window where you can browse and upload images. It'll tell you if the file is too big.
DigitalNonsenseReadr • Mar 1, 2010 12:25 pm
Very nice... Thank you Clodfobble
Undertoad • Mar 1, 2010 12:59 pm
I think the limit on dimensions is currently 1600 wide or 1200 high. I personally try to limit my widths to 780.

The limit on size in bytes is probably around 150K. This is mostly to try to encourage people not to just upload images out of a camera. That way modem users can still enjoy the site.
DigitalNonsenseReadr • Mar 1, 2010 1:30 pm
Alrighty... I'll try to limit the width to 780. I do find it a tad annoying when an oversized image stretches the page.

With a short name like mine, I can get away with 800 width images and have no scrolling. Your mileage may vary, especially with a longer name like Digital Nonsense Reader.

Logo. I don't even know what this says, but it's the logo for a Chinese restaurant near me. There's no English written anywhere that might tell you what the name of the place is. I think it's a neat design though.

Mechanical.

This is Samuel Morse's original patent model for an automatic telegraph register. Basically, it's a dot matrix printer that can only print one line, not an entire matrix, and without a carriage return.

Animal, Vegetable, Mineral

My high hopes for capturing a duck near reeds on a pond during my walk this morning came to naught.

So here's a cat.
With a vegetable and a mineral.

I dunno, but it may be me, can I set the next one? -can I? can I? Last time I looked Jinx and I had two winners each and the new guy had one.

I have a request, please. Can we have a moratorium on the macro pics? I dont have a macro lens and I don't think many of us do either. I have a macro function on my camera but it just isn't the same. It seems like those pics tend to win hands down.
lumberjim • Mar 16, 2010 3:15 pm
none of mine won last time
glatt • Mar 16, 2010 3:42 pm
monster won this round and didn't take a single macro shot. You don't need a macro lens to win.
