Own your own Dalek. Sundae - are you there?

'Fans of Doctor Who will get the chance to own an original Dalek from the classic series when a range of costumes and props go up for auction later this month'.

'A dinner suit worn by David Tennant during his stint as the Time Lord is expected to fetch around £3,000'.

Daily Telegraph. Other newspapers are available.

Daleks were mean! I don't want one--it would give me nightmares about being, ya know.

(whispers): assimilated!

*blinks*

Exterminated.

I very sensibly ignored the small voice at the back of my head saying 'Go....go to the auction...' and made the decision that I am not going to be there and do not want to own my own Dalek. My house is too small.

Anyway, they'd have a hell of a job getting up the stairs.
Imagine trying to send one to bed early because he'd spent too much time with his mates plotting cosmic domination.
And never ask one to tidy his room. Therein lies disaster.

I feel out of the loop here and inadequate in a way only an American can feel.

Yes, new rule, all cultural references must be American. ;)

plenty of us 'merkins are Doctor Who fans from way back, tho

I wasn't a real fan, but I did watch my share of Dr.Who episodes on PBS back in the day. The shaggy hair guy with the long scarf was my favorite.
DanaC • Feb 20, 2010 4:47 pm
4th Doctor / Tom Baker.

Y'know...reading this back, it is slightly disturbing to me that the reason I have for not wanting a dalek is a lack of houseroom, as opposed to the price tag :P

There are may Dr. Who fans on the American side of the pond.

Can't understand how I completely missed the longest running science fiction show in the world.

Ok, here is a Q: I once saw what looked to be a clever British show about a guy who traveled back and forth between present day and WWII and was always bringing counterfeit notes back to WWII England from present day England. I think he had a wife in each time. What was that show?

'Goodnight Sweetheart'.

I've never watched it but it would seem to be the one you mention. I see that it started in 1993. That's what worries me. I recall when it started and, if pressed, would have said it had been going no more than five years. Even more worrying is that I saw the first episode of Dr Who! HELP! Where has it all gone? Unlike Dr Who and the main character in Goodnight Sweetheart, I don't have the luxury of being able to travel back in time.:headshake

I'd have been there if I had £56 million in my pocket (Merkins - ref the English couple who won that amount on the Euro lottery recently). A Dalek would love wonderful in my new penthouse apartment. I'd station beside the lift to scare unsuspecting visitors.

JB has one in his porch actually. It's customised - black with a Torchwood logo dontchaknow.

I was reading an article about the auction, bout a week ago, i think. Can't remember the item now, but one of them was tagged at a probable £2.5k. And just for a moment, a really fleeting moment, the thought 'I have that' went through my head.

Just for a fraction of a second, the idea crossed my mind to spend a sizeable chunk of what Dad left me on Who stuff... *grins* That wouldn't be good.

At what point does fangurl obsession become something sectionable?

When you've got nowhere left to put it all and you feature in the 'and finally' spot of a regional TV news programme.

In a similar vein, you can make your own Cylon Teddy Bear. If someone gave me this for Valentines Day, I'd probably love them forever!

A snip at £20,400/$32,500

Hundreds of Doctor Who fans crammed into a London auction room on Wednesday to bid on classic costumes and props from the BBC sci-fi show.

The most expensive item of the day was a Dalek from the 1985 story Revelation of the Daleks - which sold for £20,400, including the auctioneer's fee.
