Can liquor go bad?

I've got several unopened airline-type bottles dating to 1967. One tax seal says 1961. Didn't know they went that far back. Gin, vodka, bourbon, scotch. Safe to drink?

I'd go for it. Then again, I'm an alcoholic. Choose wisely.

It shouldn't pose a health concern. The taste might be affected if they were stored improperly (direct sun light or temperature extremes). Go for it!!

Sell 'em on E-bay and get yourself what you really want. There are people on there who will buy anything.

As a former alcoholic, the shelf life of liquor in my house had about two hours, so I wouldn't know. I did have a friend who had some home-made mead go bad. Oh, come to think of it, I did buy a bad bottle of wine once. It wasn't corked properly.

did you drink it anyway? I would have. That's how you know you're dedicated to your craft.

That was what I was going to suggest too. I found an old can of coke in the basement. The last old one I found, I opened and drank by accident. It was nasty. So I'm going to ebay this one in a few years. maybe I'll be able to send my kids to college after all

Hard liquor won't go bad. Can't go bad. Esp. if it's in glass bottles. Wine, mead, beer etc. can go bad.

Hard liquor is distilled, it's just alcohol and water and whatever aromatics/flavors will gas-off at distillation temps. Possibly some of the flavor of the gin might fade, but there's not going to be any enzymatic activity in a sealed bottle of hard liquor.

As always, I'm just a squirell, so take my advice at your own risk.

Hard liquor stays good. They apparently just found crates of whisky in Shackleton's basecamp that are still drinkable. It's a big coup for the distiller in question, apparently, because they can now compare their current production with the old stuff.

What I need to know is the shelf life on an unopened bottle of Baileys. I have a bottle of Penn Dutch Egg Nog (pre-liquored, sealed glass bottle) that's been in the fridge too long too ... how long until they are classed as biohazards? There's no expiration date on the bottles.

I'd say with all that sugar and alcohol in there they're good to go. I think if the cream element were off you'd know (:greenface) ... In my fridge an opened bottle can last all of an evening if I go slowly at it ...

My Mom had a bottle of Harvey's Bristol Cream from her wedding.
It had been kept in a cabinet for 30 years, no temp control, no special care, etc. She gave it to me to give to a friend who said it was the smoothest drink he'd ever had.

eBay, huh? Ya think eleven of 'em will bring enough to be worth the effort? I don't drink a lot of liquor, but I'm partial to Wild Turkey and Crown Royal, so I'm looking at like thirty-five bucks to get good-n-greased. Maybe the ol' Heaven Hill vodka @ $12.85 a half-gallon is in the works.:drunk:

I'd have my doubts about an egg-nog.

You probably can't sell liquor on ebay. Interstate commerce and all that.

It's not the stuff in cartons from Christmastime ... it's this.

30 proof? The fridge requirement is probably just a COA precaution. might not last through a hot summer in the attic, but I'm sure it's drinkable. just cream, no eggs? you should be ok, you can smell sour milk easily over the booze.

Party on Wayne!

You can sell bottles. They say the value must be in the bottle itself, not what's in the bottle. If it's full/sealed, buyer's bonus, yay!:D
