Learn your damn homophones.
Affect
Your horrendous grammar affects the quality of your input as an interlocutor.
Effect
Your grammar’s effects are so unspeakable that you should be prosecuted at The Hague.

Capital
Capital punishment should be applied to people who use improper grammar.
Capitol
Improper grammar is not allowed inside the capitol.

Discreet
If you can’t discern the difference between homophones, then be discreet.
Discrete
There is a discrete difference between someone who knows homophones and someone who does not.

Of yore I knew the difference between your and you're. I vividly remember the results from one fellow who didn't, and split the difference with Y O U apostrophe R. It wasn't even a typo; it was intended as the possessive, and on a hand-lettered sign.

Decent training in the language would fix this in all but the most thickheaded. It did so in my day.

Variations on apostrophe catastrophes............

There was a road sign not too far from here giving directions to 'St. Mary,s Church & Centre'.

Also, a local company had its entire fleet of vans emblazoned 'Robinson,s'*. The proprietor was a deeply unpleasant man and deserved the ridicule. Having said that, most people probably thought it was grammatically correct.
