Radar: how is a real woman supposed to act? I find that statement most disturbing. As far as I can tell, she is politically outspoken and stands up for what she believes to be important.

I can't stand her philosophy; I think she is deeply damaging to the cause of female equality because of the content of her statements: but I don't see how she acts 'nothing like a real woman'. She is bigoted and holds views I find to be contemptible; but I find your views on her femininity, or lack thereof, even more offensive. Would you prefer she exited the public stage and stayed indoors? How do you define a 'real woman' Radar?

Yes. America would be better off if she killed herself, but staying indoors and leaving the public stage would suffice.

DanaC;621292 wrote:

A real woman is feminine, classy, strong, multi-tasking, has self-respecting, creative, caring/loving, kind, etc. and she is also biologically a woman (lacking an adam's apple, man hands, a penis, etc.)

I have great respect for lady's and pretty much real women in general. I have no respect for cunts. There's a HUGE difference. And anyone who says a woman can't be a cunt or who accuses a man who uses this term to describe Ann Coulter of being a misogynist, is only displaying their own stupidity.

I think of the book Middlesex...he talks about the number of people who are assigned a gender upon birth due to hermaphroditism (is that a word?) So, the rest of the theory is that many model types, of the non-existent hips and other body features, have a lot of male in them, having been born undetermined. Probably easier to cut that thing off than to make it look respectable.

It's just a theory.

What is it about the way she talks, writes, conducts herself publicly and her 'personal mannerisms' that you consider masculine?

I don't like the woman; but as far as I can tell she walks and talks like a woman: just a very strident and forthright one. her personal mannerisms? In what way are they not feminine?

I suspect that were you and I to meet, you would not consider me a 'real woman'. I swear in public. I don't act in a 'ladylike' manner. I suspect that in order to be a 'real woman' by your definition, I would have to be 'ladylike' in how I comport myself. I consider that an extremely narrow definition of a 'real woman'.

DanaC • Dec 29, 2009 3:59 pm
*grins*

Well, I did take a bus to Hebden the other day...

This sort of thing really gets to me. We have constructed an idea of what a woman or a man is. It is almost entirely culturally defined. The biological imperatives account for so little of it, which is why it has been so subject to change across time and indeed differs greatly from one culture and geographical area to the next. I can totally understand someone not liking Coulter. I even get that from certain angles she looks a little masculine. But from other angles, she just looks statuesque.

Part of this is a defence of a woman's right to define her own femininity; and part of it comes from my suspicion that Radar has a very traditional (and therefore rather paternalistic) view of what femininity is.
xoxoxoBruce • Dec 29, 2009 4:11 pm
I suspect you're right about Radar's views, but he can speak for himself.

Sure it's culturally defined. "Ladylike", or more precisely what's considered "ladylike", is a whole lot different, at different spots on the globe.
lumberjim • Dec 29, 2009 4:16 pm
maybe there's some Dagney Taggart hang up? She was described the way Coulter looks.
Radar • Dec 29, 2009 4:20 pm
I've known a lot of women who use profanity. I don't consider this to be a lack of femininity. How about this...any woman who thinks she's tough enough to hit a man, is tough enough to be hit by a man. I'd never hit a lady, but I'll beat the shit out of any man or woman who hits me first. And I'm not talking about a slap on the ass or something playful. I'm talking about a punch in the face.

I don't really know what to say if you can't see the masculinity in her mannerisms, speech, or even her physical characteristics. I, and many others do. This is why she is often referred to as "Man Coulter"
Radar • Dec 29, 2009 4:22 pm
lumberjim;621526 wrote:

Not really. I was attracted by the description of Dagney Taggart and found it nothing remotely like what Ann Coulter looks like. She had short hair, but was very feminine. She was sexually promiscuous, and a slightly pushy, but no less feminine. I don't feel that subordination or submissiveness toward a man does anything to either reduce or increase feminism so the fact that she wasn't submissive does nothing to make her less feminine in my book.
DanaC • Dec 29, 2009 4:26 pm
Maybe I've misunderstood you then Radar. In which case, my apologies.

But there is (and always has been) a tendency for forthright women in the public eye to be accused of and denigrated for 'masculinity'. It happens with Coulter, it happens with Hilary Clinton, it happened with Maggie Thatcher. It has been thus for as long as there has been a 'public' sphere.

Perhaps in this case, I am mistaken and this is not what is at play here. But this is usually the thing that is thrown at women in politics in particular, by those who disagree with them politically.

I'm all for equality classicman. I try to avoid physical confrontation with everyone, but if if someone hits me with bad intentions, I'll hit them back without regard to their religion, age above that of a child, gender, race, etc.
DanaC • Dec 29, 2009 4:32 pm
I don't think adults should be hitting each other at all. I do think men need to be aware of their potential for greater strength and therefore higher levels of harm. That said, if a woman punches a man I see no reason why the man shouldnt punch her right back. There's a big difference between two people having a fist-fight on more or less equal terms (as defined by the protaganists), and a strong man beating up a woman.
Radar • Dec 29, 2009 4:35 pm
I am against any man or woman beating their spouse, and as I said, I'm against fighting in general. As a libertarian, I'm against the initiation of physical force, but not against the use of physical force in my defense.

I never start physical fights, but I always finish them.

I'm not the kind of guy who will stand by as a woman punches him or pounds on him even if I'm physically stronger than her. I've had friends who got black eyes that way. I don't see that as chivalry. I see it as stupidity. If a man is physically stronger than a woman, it's all the more reason for a woman not to start a physical fight she can't win.
classicman • Dec 29, 2009 4:46 pm
I must be an antique. I would never never ever hit a woman - under any circumstances. If attacked by one I will attempt to defend myself (been there done that) or restrain her without hitting her. At worst I would leave.

Shawnee123 • Dec 29, 2009 4:54 pm
I don't believe in abuse, whether it's hitting, or name-calling (hey, I'm not in a relationship with classicman) ;) or whatever. Women don't get to beat the crap out of a guy and he just stands there taking it. Women don't get to belittle a guy and call him all sorts of horrible things, make him feel ashamed, hurt him.

It hurts men as much as it hurts women. A long time hurt...does horrible things to a psyche.

And, I think it's harder for a man, even, to justify leaving...due to the shame society puts on him, making him feel not a man (or so he fears.) Here's an article I ran across, which I was reminded of when reading these posts:

http://marital-conflict-negotiation.suite101.com/article.cfm/why_do_men_stay_in_abusive_relationships

Radar • Dec 29, 2009 5:52 pm
Thanks for that article Shawnee. I can identify with a lot of that, especially the "Nobody will Believe Him" section. My wife has gotten a full plastic soda bottle and started smacking herself in the face with it and said she would call the cops, start crying and say I hit her. Luckily someone else was in the car to see it. My father has seen her smack her own head into the wall when she's upset. She's 115 and I'm more than double her weight and taller than her.
xoxoxoBruce • Dec 29, 2009 5:54 pm

Shawnee123 • Dec 29, 2009 6:06 pm
C-man. I know, too, what it does to a person.

Radar, that's effed up man. I'm sorry, I feel that women who fake being abused are abusers themselves, and it's a slap in the face for women who really deal with the shit, or have dealt with the shit. It undermines the credibility of everyone who has ever been abused. :mad2:

Hahahaha...radar is not a libertarian because he thinks Ann Coulters looks rode hard and put away wet? Wow...this is the logic you possess that we are supposed to strive for, to be a better person, a person like you?

No, Shawnee, that is not why Radar is not a libertarian. He is not a libertarian because he is a tyrannical narcissist, and libertarianism does not suit him as well as he thought it might when he started.

And no, Coulter does not look rode hard nor put away wet. Striking, yes. Probably just as striking, if a lot darker, in her natural hair color. Why I am a better man than Radar is seen in my posts -- and his. As for the mannishness he sees -- tosh. Contralto is not a masculine voice register, but with Coulter's long frame you're not going to pitch like Betty Boop. She is a tough gal, granted. Would you expect a shrinking violet to do as she does?

Though this "good taste" of which you speak is partially in the eye of the beholder, it takes a lot of squinting and a real need to sound refined to call a pile of shit "good mental hygiene."

Seriously, um...ew.

Speaking of "eye of the beholder," do you really think yours is open? If so, why? I'm not seeing that you can see. When assessing comparative mental hygiene, I suggest you take a look at who does the raving and wildeyed ranting when I tell him he's full of shit, and who does not respond in kind after being treated to such a first-grader's exhibition.

*checks my 'eye'*

Seems fine to me.

Except that I am a libertarian because unlike UG, I adhere to the 2 core principles of libertarianism; namely self-ownership/self-determination and the non-aggression principle...and nothing I support is even close to tyrannical. UG supports neither of the core libertarian principles. I love how in UG's weak and pathetic little mind, when any of the billions of people on the planet earth who dwarfs his intellect (like myself), mentions it, they are exhibiting narcissistic behavior, while all the while he's tooting his own horn. Oh sweet irony. UG is a perfect example of how stupid people are too dumb to actually know they're stupid. His mental disorders are too great to mention, but one of them is transference. He loves to accuse others of having his own failings, such as narcissism.

Of course you find her striking. She's very masculine looking and you're turned on by foul-mouthed, ignorant, trannies.

Yes, by all means compare the articulate, well-reasoned, factual, honest, posts I've written to the nonsensical, lunatic, rants of a mental midget like UG. Most here in the Cellar, and in the world in general would say I'm heads and shoulders above you in intellect, class, honor, integrity, honesty, education, and above all sanity. Some in here would vote against me in such a poll out of spite, but if they were honest, I doubt you'd have a single vote in an honest assessment of any of those areas, let alone have you actually beat me in them.

If you were to hire 100 unbiased psychiatrists, all 100 of them would vote for me in the sanity department over you.

Well reasoned? And you believe you have reason, one single reason, to apply that to your spewings? You're in worse shape than even I thought. You haven't even noticed the deafening silence coming from the rest of the Cellar, have you? Call that good presence of mind? I shan't.

You just can't make me feel bad for getting it right about Obama where you didn't, Paulie, so I'm not going to be influenced by what satisfies you as thinking. I shall think for myself, and you get nil input, owing to the quality of thought prevalent in your writings. As disconnected from mankind as you are, deep down, you have no business at all in anything to do with politics. You not only have zero people skills, you cannot even conceive they might be necessary. Comes of your narcissistic personality disorder, which is daily evidenced whenever you write.

Remember who got 63 votes when it counted, including his own. And that the winner in the field pulled in over 32,000.
Radar • Jan 7, 2010 10:27 am
That statement proves how little you know about politics.

I got 66 Libertarian votes during the primary or 100% of the votes of Libertarians voting in the primary election.

http://primary2006.sos.ca.gov/Returns/usrep/3500.htm

This is merely the election to see whose names will appear on the ballot during the general election....dumbass.

In the general election the votes broke down like this...

Maxine Waters (Dem)
82,498 Votes
83.8 %ImageImage

Gordon Michael Mego (AI)
8,343 Votes
8.5 %ImageImage

Paul T. Ireland (Libertarian)
7,665 Votes
7.7 %

Here's a little information about California's 35th district. It's among the safest districts in the United States for the Democratic Party. It has a higher percentage of registered Democrats than any other district.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California%27s_35th_congressional_district

I ran in a highly gerrymandered district (racially and along party lines) where I knew I had no chance of winning the election. I had no plans on actually winning. Yet, I got a higher percentage of votes than any other Libertarian to run in the district in a 3-way race at any point since the district was created before or since.

I got the 2nd highest percentage for any third-party candidate, behind Gordon Mego. Mr. Mego got more votes than me because the Republican Party vote was split, and he's an anti-abortion, mix church and state, the war in Iraq is just fine, whacko so he got more of the Republican vote.

I did very well in the election considering I didn't spend a penny of my own money and only about $1500 of money donated to my campaign while doing most of the work myself.

My very successful vote totals had nothing to do with a lack of people skills. In fact, they prove the opposite.

Thanks for once again showing us all that you have no clue what you're talking about and no sanity, intellect, or honor to speak of along with your ever present transference attempts to foist your narcissistic personality disorder onto me.

From one of your Libertarian "friends". . .

My favorite Ireland quotes:

"You have been over it 15 times, and each and every time, I've proven you wrong. When will you get it through your head?"

"You're a sleazy, slimey, worthless, scumbag who is worth less than a ton of dead rats in a tampon factory"

"Nothing inside the body of a person has any rights. Not even if it were a fully sentient being capable of communication begging to be allowed to live. [...] Until the moment the fetus is removed from the womb, it is has no more human rights than a brick."

You got a way with words Radar. I lol'd, I especially like the second one.
Radar • Jan 7, 2010 3:43 pm
Those were written to a couple of the Republicans who worked to gut the libertarian party platform, chased away a lot of activist who had spent decades building the party, and tried to turn the Libertarian Party into the Republitarian Party. Namely Bruce Cohen & a pseudo-intellectual douchebag who fits the same description named Brian Holtz. They basically worked to toss out all of the libertarian principles from the libertarian party.

The one you like was directed at Bruce and I stole the line from the movie "Top Secret" with Val Kilmer.
