I love/hate this commercial. Is that a real regional accent?

(advertisement for some cellular company, if you haven't seen it)
zippyt • Dec 6, 2009 1:14 am
yes some folks sound like that

It's an ad for tires, not cell phones and yes, there are people who really sound like that.

It is funny about regional accents, after the listening to Hope Boy and the Connecticut Yankee's Southern accents for 16 years, I have to be very careful not to automatically attribute deception to that regions various accents. On the upside, it has been very helpful in dealing with all the Texans involved in the gas rush. Conversely, my sister, who attributes holiness to all the Bush administrations actions, is an easy mark for any Southern accent wielded by preachers, politicians, or potholes.

haha, Geico! I guess that means it's a failed ad, if you can't even remember the advertised product.

and, so . . . what region? Not like any Southern accent I've heard.

Regional accents:
I was listening on the radio to a woman who had several advanced degrees in nuclear physics and such, going on and on about black holes and particle acceleration and what not, but due to her intensely thick Long Island nasal whine I could let go of the idea that she was a complete airhead.

Just as some faces were meant for radio, some voices were meant for books.

Is that why they ignored Wavy Gravy's pleas, to get off the sound towers during a thunderstorm?;)
Cloud • Dec 6, 2009 2:18 pm
ha! his voice is better than his mug
Clodfobble • Dec 6, 2009 3:53 pm
There's a lot of that accent in East Texas too. Lubbock, and thereabouts.
Trilby • Dec 6, 2009 7:20 pm
I thought it sounded South Carolinian!

I thought the voice was being done by one of the characters from King of the Hill. I'd love to have "pothole" on my acting resume.
