How Involved is your Spouse or Sig Other with The Cellar

richlevy • Dec 1, 2009 11:16 pm
A few years ago my lovely wife treated the computer and keyboard like kryptonite. I showed her the ropes and now she and I have to schedule around each other to use e-mail and Internet.

One place she does not go is the Cellar. I will occasionally call her over to show her a post or picture, but she has no interest in checking it out.

Which may be a good thing for me.

I voted "posts occasionally" but on reflection maybe I should have stepped it up to a regular...he appears on the second page when you sort by post order, has met 4 other dwellars with me and sometimes tell the cellar things before he tells me.... d'oh

Doesn't know, doesn't care. The only things he does online are craigslist and ebay.

So it worked then, eh? ;)

Not really Zen

Mrs L had a couple posts in a photo thread but lurks infrequently. I'll show her some things that amuse me but that's about it.

The wife doesn't really hate the cellar, it's just that there have been times when she wants to talk and I'm composing a serious reply that has to written just right. She doesn't like the competition.

When you get that snazzy new PC set up... you can use the old one. ;)

She knows the Cellar brought me into your lives, and holds a grudge. :haha:

My SO is currently a big, furry, bearded collie with an attitude problem. He has his own log on (pilau) but finds the keyboard difficult to operate with his paws.

He has, however, a presence here and assures me he is well-liked.

My best friend, J, was going to sign-up a few months ago and then didn't. Maybe he will at some point. Mum occasionally floats the idea she might sign up but never does.
Sundae • Dec 2, 2009 6:18 am
No spuse or SO, but no-one I have spoken to about the Cellar has shown any interest in joining.

If I go along with Dana's scenario, Diz is interested in the Cellar but doesn't post.
But only in the same way he is interested when I am wrapping my Secret Santa present (he nearly ended up being my Secret Santa present I can tell you), or going to the toilet, or trying to find my shoes. Everything I do is interesting to the Diz cat.

My wife pretty much hates the Cellar, but tolerates my participation here. She also doesn't like the competition. I've encouraged her to check it out, but she has no interest.

We'll be sitting in front of the tv watching some crap, and I get bored and reach for the laptop, and she feels like I'm rejecting her when I do that. We've talked about it, and I've been cutting back on the laptop, and she's been trying not to take it personally. But she still hates this place.

Mine lurks to keep tabs on me.

Never signed on or posts, no interest. She surfs more porn than I do.

no option for N/A!
Clodfobble • Dec 2, 2009 8:09 pm
Mr. Clod recognizes it as being important social interaction for me. He is interested in the stories I tell him about people here, and I show him pictures or funny posts, but he specifically chooses to stay away because he says he wants it to be my playground, not his.

Well, the option now is "don't check anything", but I will add one next time.

Husband tried it briefly, but doesn't see the appeal. He thinks it is silly to have internet friends that you send gifts to and post with on a regular basis.
Stormieweather • Dec 2, 2009 10:10 pm
My spouse knows about it, sees me surfing here, and I've shown him various pics and/or posts. He does not come here on his own. I think he has no interest in a website without a specific point. He reads and posts on gaming forums and some music related sites, but that's about it. I think I look at more kinky stuff on the internet than he does, but I don't snoop on him, so not totally sure.

Where is the "jealous of the time spent on the cellar" category? :)

I am only thinking of an ex here, so I need not apply anyway.
wolf • Dec 3, 2009 2:22 am
I voted "lurks occasionally," but that's not quite the case, as it implies that he comes on his own, reads, and leaves. Rather I'll send him a thread here and there that I think might be of interest, in hopes that it might entice him into participation.

He knows what The Cellar is, and has met several local Dwellars. "Knows about it and doesn't care" really didn't fit the situation, as it implies a sort of apathy. He cares, but he's not a BBS poster sort of fellow.

i don't have an SO but my family thinks I've made you all up.
xoxoxoBruce • Dec 3, 2009 2:53 am
They're right, we're just a figment of your imagination... ain't that right, Harvey.
Trilby • Dec 3, 2009 2:55 am
Srsly. I told them I got a gift from my secret santa from the UK and they just looked at me like, "ah, there she goes again...we'll just nod and smile in our patronizing way and soon she'll grow tired of the delusion..."

They are a cynical lot.
xoxoxoBruce • Dec 3, 2009 11:22 am
Be thankful, Bri, they used to burn at the stake, women that made those kind of statements. :haha:

Ahhh, that explains a lot...

I wondered why I was suddenly feeling compelled to shop for sport coats with leather patches on the elbows.
TheMercenary • Dec 4, 2009 11:30 am
My experience is like glatt and reg.joe. Most of the time she cares less, other times it really bugs her. It must be the competition.

Omg my husband hates it. You should hear the things he says...
bluecuracao • Dec 13, 2009 2:24 pm
MB signed up at one point, but I don't think he ever confirmed it.

He enjoys it when I show him the LOLcats and IotDs, and likes trying to tell me what to say during chat.

That's funny since we saw Paula Deen on TV last night and I mentioned what you wrote about her.

"where's that button. push. push. push.":D

I had to explain the Twilight Zone reference.
