Look Out, DC

Juniper • Oct 20, 2009 8:20 pm
My 8th grade daughter just left on a class trip to Washington DC.

How the heck did she get old enough to do this?!

Please join me in sending good vibes and prayers of the safety of the class of 2014 on their journey!

Class of 2014!!!!

I pass my blessing upon this warning.

Did you warn her about the bloodshot eyed, hairy knuckled, lobbyists? :mg:

It's a whirlwind tour - their itinerary is exhausting just to read. I think she's safe from hairy knuckled lobbyists. :)

I hope everything goes fine. Be sure that she does not wander off, but stays in the hotel and with the group. DC is a very crime-filled place. I once had somebody on the street try to sell me a watch (stolen, I imagine) within sight of the White House.

I was thinking something along those lines.

Spoke to her tonight. She said they had encountered a "protester" - some woman with about four teeth who lived in a tent and said she'd been there since 1984, had a poster calling Bush a terrorist and told the kids "you don't know nothin'."

Ha. I asked her if anyone had told the woman that Bush wasn't prez anymore.

Before we moved offices, I used to go for walks on my lunch hour past the White House and around the Ellipse pretty much daily. She's always there. Rain or shine. A landmark, like a tree. They did move her over about a hundred feet last time I was there a month ago, but I can say I've seen her there for the past 20 years. Never talked to her though.

Redux has the correct link.
