Do you think both sexes cheat equally?

Cloud • Sep 8, 2009 8:56 pm
I sorta think more men cheat on their spouses than women, but I admit I may be biased, and have no statistics to back my feeling up. I think men are like the honeybee, going from flower to flower . . . What do you think?
Aliantha • Sep 8, 2009 9:10 pm
Statistically, men cheat more than women, but the ratio of women cheating is on the rise.
DanaC • Sep 8, 2009 9:11 pm
I wonder if there's a difference in the kinds of cheating? Cheating once or serial cheating.
capnhowdy • Sep 8, 2009 9:17 pm
Women cheat more due to the law of large numbers. They're propositioned more thus they cheat more. Opportunity knocks. Answer the door.
DanaC • Sep 8, 2009 9:19 pm
lol your assumption that the response to opportunity knocking is to answer the door is interesting. I think you just answered the question, but not in the way you might think.
capnhowdy • Sep 8, 2009 9:26 pm
I work in a bar lots of nights. And pay attention. The ratio of propositioning in reference to women/men is like 10/1. Just my personal observation.
DanaC • Sep 8, 2009 9:27 pm
You're talking about the ratio of propositioning. And, I was suggesting that your assumption that propositions generally meet with a yes may be gender-biased :P
Aliantha • Sep 8, 2009 9:27 pm
Just because someone is propositioning someone else doesn't mean they're cheating. In fact, if the number of women is that much higher than men, then there's less chance that the woman is cheating and that the man would be. ;)
Elspode • Sep 8, 2009 9:49 pm
Men are pigs and sluts. I know this for a fact, as I, too, am a pig and a slut. Granted, I'm a fairly literate, well-spoken, sincere pig and slut, but I yam what I yam.
monster • Sep 8, 2009 10:37 pm
define cheating.

carnal knowledge? BJs? flirting? looking at porn? masturbating?

from what i hear on the dodgy radio station we listen to, lots of people have lots of diferent definitions, and many women see masturbation to porn as cheating whereas men don't, so then of course men cheat more.......cause it ain't cheating when the girlies do it :lol:
DanaC • Sep 8, 2009 10:39 pm
I have neve understood the idea of masturbating to porn being a form of cheating. Bet the women who think that don't see it as cheating if they feel a litle girly over a movie star.
DanaC • Sep 8, 2009 10:40 pm
Thinking about it, and aside from the appalling typos...that sentence cuold be read entirely the wrong way...
Cloud • Sep 8, 2009 10:41 pm
no, no, no. Just defined in simple terms for the purposes of the poll it would be sex with someone else other than your Other. Masturbation does not count (unless it's mutual); bjs count.

good point, however.
DanaC • Sep 8, 2009 10:42 pm
How bout kissing?
lumberjim • Sep 8, 2009 11:31 pm
i assume that men cheat more because they're all disgusting pigs. you have to factor in the men that get hookers. half of them are married.

women are delicate angels, and if they're cheating.....you've already lost them.
xoxoxoBruce • Sep 9, 2009 12:39 am
But a handful of new studies suggest surprising changes in the marital landscape. Infidelity appears to be on the rise, particularly among older men and young couples. Notably, women appear to be closing the adultery gap: younger women appear to be cheating on their spouses nearly as often as men.
~~~~~~~~~~
The most consistent data on infidelity come from the General Social Survey, sponsored by the National Science Foundation and based at the University of Chicago, which has used a national representative sample to track the opinions and social behaviors of Americans since 1972. The survey data show that in any given year, about 10 percent of married people — 12 percent of men and 7 percent of women — say they have had sex outside their marriage.
But detailed analysis of the data from 1991 to 2006, to be presented next month by Dr. Atkins at the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies conference in Orlando, show some surprising shifts. University of Washington researchers have found that the lifetime rate of infidelity for men over 60 increased to 28 percent in 2006, up from 20 percent in 1991. For women over 60, the increase is more striking: to 15 percent, up from 5 percent in 1991.
The researchers also see big changes in relatively new marriages. About 20 percent of men and 15 percent of women under 35 say they have ever been unfaithful, up from about 15 and 12 percent respectively.
clearly, honesty of survey answers is on the rise
...i'd bet that the method of the surveys taken has influence on the answers given.
Cloud • Sep 9, 2009 1:07 am
its obviously not scientific. I was just curious what y'all thought
wolf • Sep 9, 2009 10:04 am
I think men cheat more, but women are catching up (some of them have to be cheating in order for men to be able to cheat, right?) since the 1970s.
well, not necessarily . . .
TheMercenary • Sep 9, 2009 11:45 am
I think men probably cheat more but I don't have anything to back that up. On that note, I have met quite a few women who have cheated. If I had to guess I would venture to say it was something on the order of a ratio of 60/40.
nope some hookers are especially delicate. They charge extra if you want proof though.
Not sure since I've never had sex with a married woman.
Plenty of married men though.
DucksNuts • Sep 10, 2009 6:18 am
From experience, guys cheat more than women....I've never had attached women hit on me ....
wait, I think there was once...
Attached guys, yeah they cheat.
ZenGum • Sep 10, 2009 8:36 am
Especially when Ducks is there to tempt them :D Oh ye temptress.
ThatGuy • Sep 10, 2009 10:31 am
I think dudes cheat more just because most men are driven by impulse. Women tend to think things out and listen to their feelings and stuff.
Shawnee123 • Sep 10, 2009 11:12 am
Men will cheat, then when their partner finds out, they'll cry and beg for forgiveness, lamenting their piggishness, not wanting to lose their partner.
Women who cheat I *think* are more apt to do so because the relationship is bad, they're unhappy, they want out. Not saying it's justified, because it is NOT.
YMMV...I just think it's more apt to be this way.
Clodfobble • Sep 10, 2009 12:33 pm
I agree, Shaw--men cheat because they have a penis and no self control; women cheat because it's already over.
Would you say that women are specifically qualified to determine when it's "over" whereas men do not have this capability?
Shawnee123 • Sep 10, 2009 12:41 pm
Men will stay with the status quo longer, especially if they're cheating. Women will have already made that decision.
Men are just wimpier.
:bolt:
Just kiddin'
No, I'm saying men will cheat even if they don't want to lose their wife. Women are more likely to only cheat once they've decided they don't care if they lose their husband.
Shawnee123 • Sep 10, 2009 12:49 pm
Oh wow, great quote. Thanks for reminding me of that movie!
"I'm no monument to justice!"
Cloud • Sep 10, 2009 12:59 pm
Of course, I'm afraid of death. And I don't cheat.
Sheldonrs • Sep 10, 2009 2:08 pm
So it boils down to the old saying regarding sex, "Women need a reason to have it, men just need a place".
SteveDallas • Sep 10, 2009 5:24 pm
Flint;593849 wrote:
Men not only can't tell when it's over, we can't tell when it's starting.
they were talking about this on the radio this morning and had a study that said 1/5 men cheat, 1/6 women, but women are way better at it and are less likely to get found out so the perception is that men cheat much more than women when in fact it's only a little more. of course this was a local rock station which gives equal airtime to studies proving that it was actually Liz Taylor that died and Whacko took her place so he could get closer to little children....
lumberjim • Sep 11, 2009 11:30 pm
just remember that 3/5 of all stats are made up on the spot
Cheating fairly.
Now THAT'S a concept!
IMO - Men cheat more than women. Men can get turned on simply by looking at a two-dimensional image on a glossy page of a skin magazine. Women, on the other hand... well, I dunno. Women like sex too.
I remember having a young couple working for me years ago. They went on a vacation to visit her family and he ended up having sex with his SIL. It didn't end well - she became promiscous, he got some other girl pregnant (they had a baby between them already), she took him to the cleaners in the divorce, she got pregnant by a married man, he divorced his wife and moved in with her, he got another girl pregnant, she got pregnant by another guy and they all moved to Oregan. :headshake
I was propositioned once in my life. I was single (she was married) and, unfortunately, I had to decline because she was totally intoxicated and I had this visual of her barfing all over me at the peak of orgasm.
Undertoad • Sep 15, 2009 11:16 am
Men generally cheat because they are sexual beings and are offered the opportunity. Women generally cheat because they find their relationship un-fulfilling in some way, more likely emotionally than sexually.
