Acknowledgments

Hey all,

I still do hang around the ol' Cellar from time to time, though I seldom add my verbiage to the discussions these days. I find that I spend so much time writing that it's become more of a chore than a recreational activity. So I lurk.

I just wanted to let you guys know that my much-too-long-in-coming book is finally published, and the Cellar was among a small handful of sites I specifically mentioned in the acknowledgments. To see it for yourself, simply go here and search for "Acknowledgments." See? I still (heart) the Cellar! *cough*

Anyway, I hope that everyone is doing just splendidly!

XOXOXO

wait, wait ... YOU'RE the guy behind damninteresting.com! Holy crap, I LOVE that site! I had no idea.

This makes me like 3 steps removed from awesome.

I am indeed the founder of the aforementioned site... much to my alternating chagrin and delight (gah, I think I channeled Suess there for a moment). Damn Interesting is big fun and quite rewarding, but it is also a very demanding pursuit which comes with negligible monetary reward. So it goes, I suppose.

Thanks for the compliments, though! Yay for compliments!

Thanks HP! Bought with one-click.

Nice to see you're alive and well. Good luck with everything! Don't be such a stranger.

Doesn't let me view acknowledgements. Tells me I must have a valid account with a prior purchase to do so :(

Way to go though mate. :)

Very cool, HP!!

I've clicked "I'd Like to Buy this on Kindle" and added a physical copy to my cart.

Interestingly, I was just thinking of you ... there was some Nissan ad on TV recently that drops a car from a height in front of a large sign advertising "Hot Pastrami" and briefly wondered if LJ was trying to send secret messages. So I laid off the caffeine for the rest of the night and I stopped having thoughts like that.

Thanks everybody! You guys are the best. Way better than those other guys on other sites that are only OK.
DanaC • Sep 2, 2009 7:36 pm
You go to other sites? *shocked and betrayed*

I could send you one, I'd just need an address. And a big, wet, sloppy hug.

hey HP you don't know me but.... what the hell are you doing near SLC? Is there a mormon thing going on there? or is there not and that's how come you have time and willing to do the damninteresting thing. Or ignore me if I'm being too personal and offensive...

i just assumed you were either in PA or CA ...and now i noticed you're not -very far from it

I live here only because I was born here and have not yet moved away--I'm pretty close with my family and have lots of friends, so my dislike for the culture is outweighed by those factors. The mountains are also nice when the weather is fair.

But yes, it is very Mormon here...over 80% density here in Utah county as of the last census. Enough that everyone assumes you're Mormon, and is shocked when they learn otherwise.

Personally I haven't got a religious bone in my body.

Yes... or you could just send me $10 and I'll send you one of my extra copies. Whichever you prefer.

If you ask nicely, I may even rub the book on my undeodorized armpits to give it a personalized, musky aroma.

HP, I just finished Alien Hand Syndrome. I loved it. Way cool stuff.

I posted a review over at goodreads.com ... here's what it says:

I love curious stories about stuff. All kinds, not restricted to topic. I've been fascinated by this sort of thing since elementary school, when I would find little gems in my Scholastic Book Club newsprint flyer every month, and beg my mother to give me the money for books like Strange but True Tales. As the years passed the books were lost or given away, but my love for the oddities and curiosities of life continued. I was overjoyed to find in this book details of some of those old scraps of information I'd been hoarding in my brain, like the Stewardess Who Fell 33,000 Feet, Clever Hans, and the Japanese Solider who refused to believe the WWII was over because Japan's loss was so inconceivable. Add to that a chapter on my favorite psychiatric diagnosis (Capgras Syndrome)! Thank you Alan Bellows and damninteresting.com!!

I gave you five stars out of five, btw.

Wow, thanks! That means a lot. The book's sales have been pretty mediocre, but it has been very well-received despite that. All 16 reviews on Amazon are 5-stars. If only I were clever and crafty enough to make more people aware of the book...

Sorry for the slow reply by the way... I was recently hit by a metaphorical truck, and I am still recovering.

Yay! When you get it, be sure to check out the acknowledgments page. While the Cellar is complimented in general, you are named specifically... in a way. Heh.

Cool! I will have to look for it.

...Perhaps I should just buy it now?..
