Aug 30, 2009: Varini's Ellipses

It looks like somebody photoshopped three ellipses on a picture of some locks.

But as you can see below, Felice Varini actually laid out and painted the amalgam of lines and shapes required to bring this illusion together.

Varini has been doing this sort of thing for 30 years, all over the globe.
Varini's illusions, like the sidewalk chalk artist illusions, always made me wonder just how that's done. Until now. ;)

Varini shows how he did at least one project here. Using a powerful projector at night, he projected the pattern on the buildings, marked the buildings with the outlines, then filled in the outlines come daylight. Very simple, very clever. :thumb:

Wow.. These two are sooooooooo not worth it.

A lot of effort for such a 'so what' result.

The street chalk jobs are so much more riveting.

That rounded tubular rail on the left, in the first photo, gives it away. It messes up the 'illusion'.

Well I think they're very cool.

Probably last longer than the street chalkings, as well.

After going through the link it is clear he is only a tracer. Anyone could do that.

You didn't though, did you Coign?

Now, if you had already done that, I might think you have a point.

Perhaps a few fighting dragons or vampires might make it more "art" in the mind of the unwashed masses?

doesn't exactly look like a prime art stroll location though

All good arts is in them museums and galleries, or tattooed on someone's ass.
