Aug 27, 2009: New Species

The Bristol Zoo has added new signage for one of their older species.

The new sign is in between two large windows that look into the cafeteria, where you can observe the social interaction, and feeding habits, of this species. ;)

Can zoo visitors see them mating inside their habitat?

Yes. This is Bristol.

How fitting. I have known some people I thought belonged in a zoo.;)

Does Basil know he's not the daddy... of Rosemary's baby?

Reminds me of when I was little at the ... ah ... I think maybe the Bronx zoo and in the ape house they had a cage with a sign saying something like: "Most dangerous animal in the world" and there was just a large mirror behind the bars.

:shocking:

Yes, but there's an additional charge. And it's quite smelly...

I didn't know that. Those bastards will pay me royalties from here on out. Goddam liars.

Yes, others may have had one, but I saw it at the Bronx Zoo, also. :thumb:

This new species is actually endangered, but fortunately there is a captive breeding program. :bolt:

This reminds me of a illustrated short story I read in the Bank Street Book of Science Fiction when I was a child. The story was called Zoo by Edward D. Hoch.

Good IotD.

Twist: Bristol zoo staff didn't put up the sign.
Zoo staff were surprised and amused to discover the new fixture. Dr Jo Gipps, Director of Bristol Zoo Gardens, said: “This is definitely not one of the Zoo’s own signs, it is clearly a prank and a very good one too. It looks completely genuine. We think it’s great sign and we have absolutely no intention of removing it, however I think one of them is probably enough."

Although staff do not know the origin of the sign, it comes as the famous Bristol street artist, Banksy, holds a ‘homecoming’ exhibition of his work at Bristol Museum nearby.

Crap, if the rumor gets around that Banksy made it, somebody will probably steal it. His work has become quite valuable.

That makes it so much better!
