July 28, 2009: Baboons learn to open car roof containers

This is one of those shots that isn't exactly what you think it is at first...

The folks at the Knowsley Safari Park sent this car through on purpose, with the car roof box filled. They did it to show that the baboons have, in fact, learned how to open the containers.

Of course, this means there were similar events, before the park figured out that it was happening, and how to get a good picture of it.

I'm just as concerned about the damage to the vehicle itself. Side mirror... wipers... the baboons are now the subject of "Anti Social Baboon Orders" from the park. They don't say what that means. It sounds like these baboons have now been put on report, or double secret probation or something.

They just want to go one better than the trunk monkeys

let this be a lesson to us human-type people: Don't pack your edible underwear up there.

They need to send a few more cars through that have lions in their roof-containers. The surviving baboons will be too frightened to ever try to open another roof-container again.

Do you think its necessary to have people in the car? Are they trying to scare them off? :eyebrow:
Clodfobble • Jul 27, 2009 10:54 pm
How else are they going to drive the car into the park?
Aliantha • Jul 27, 2009 11:04 pm
remote control?

Ken could drive while Barbie watches what the baboons are doing. :D

I'm not sure how to interpret this, but...you will note that the baboons are not trying on any of the clothes they've found. Does this make them smarter than us, or stupider?

I think they should sue for entrapment.

That must be where they recruit Japanese customs and quarantine inspectors.

Yeah, Babboons seem to really like cars (NSFW)

It would be simple to train the baboons not to do this. Even in a harmless way. But I reckon they want to get the media hype first.

...shuffles off to look for baboon recipes......

Ahhh Good ol' Knowsley Safari Park. Many a happy childhood memory there. Mainly, if I am honest, these consist of getting lost and trying to find said safari park, eventually happening upon it as Dad's irritation began to peak.

There are two kinds of visit to Knowsley: either the animals are about and you get the shit the beat out of your car (cue worrying tilting of car and scraping noises); or you drive the entire park and see nowt but the odd pheasant.

Replace the roof container with a BBQ grill.

Chimp with a machine gun on the roof would solve this problem.

Went to knowsley last year and the funniest thing I saw was a chap's face when his car overheated and broke down during feeding time in the lion enclosure.
You could see it in his face " Burn to death or outrun the lions "
Sadly the staff got to him in the landrover and sorted him out. Bah
