BEAR!!!

We went to Yosemite today to meet some family who had NEVER been there before. If YOU have never been to Yosemite, get there before you die. Please. The place can really change you -- for the better. It is one of the places God (generic term...god, goddess, Jehovah, Vishnu, Buddha, the Cosmic Navel, whatever) GOT RIGHT!!

We went today. We saw our first BEAR!!!! A BEAR!!!Image

We were in a convertible, which made my wife a wee bit nervous, but then I pointed out the 50 or so Darwin award candidates who had gotten out of THEIR cars and were standing on the side of the road . . . standing on the side of the road and COOING at the bear. Leave the puir beastie be. Anyhow, we are STILL on cloud 9 despite two WICKED pairs of sunburn. Holy crap am I red.

God Bless those Darwin Award candidates. You could have got out of the car.You would not have to out-run the Bear, just out-run the idiots. :)

While bears are not that hard to catch a glimpse of, it's hard to get close enough to take a picture without cars/tourists/crap, in it. That's a excellent picture. :thumb:

Bears will tear your limbs off and eat you.

Yet, they're so cute I have cuddle urges.

Nice pic.

Bears aren't the only thing that will tie your limbs up and eat you.

Great catch Sak! (Ya didn't see BooBoo didja?)

yeah, it always cracks me up when people ask about bears. Living in Tahoe, I deal with them digging through my trash, hanging around camp sites, and jumping out in front of my car on the highway.

And you think we have some scarey wildlife in Australia! You lot are crazy.

Good one, NorCal, welcome to the Cellar.:thumb2:

Nice NorCal. Welcome.
I remember as a kid Yosemite was quite different - no bear proof boxes for your food. I remember coming back to our site from Camp Curry, and there was momma with our watermelon, and baby with our Hershey's bar, kicking back waiting for us to start the campfire.
ZenGum • Jul 8, 2009 10:43 pm
NorCal, are you sure that's not Bigfoot taking a bath?
Shawnee123 • Jul 9, 2009 8:21 am
No, it's a big cute cuddly sweet loving bear. I want to give him a big hug. Look at his face!

Oh, and he's huge. Would rip your head clean off. ;)

You are not alone with your desire to hug a bear

difference is, you are smart enough to know it would rip your head off.
