Which bit of you is hurting the most today?

monster • Jun 17, 2009 8:26 pm
Today I have an inexplicable stiff neck. It came on less than an hour after I swam yesterday evening, went off over night and came back this evening.
jinx • Jun 17, 2009 8:27 pm
My left hip, as usual.
Aliantha • Jun 17, 2009 8:28 pm
My back, but it's a lot less hurty today than yesterday.
Shawnee123 • Jun 17, 2009 8:28 pm
I'm so glad you asked!

My knee is killing me. I had the cartilage removed freshman year of college (an injury that ruined my HS senior year of basketball and track) and I don't usually have problems with it. It's killing me. But I am still taking the stairs at work. It's just scar tissue, it'll probably work it's way better.

eta: I just reread this and realized I said "killing me" twice, and what hyperbole to begin with! It's not really killllliinnnngggg me. It just freaking hurts. ;)

I misread hairy instead of hurty.

Carry on....

my left forearm/elbow area. dunno if it's just sore from working out, or if i hurt it somehow. pass the advil.
jinx • Jun 17, 2009 8:39 pm
You drink too much to take advil - see FDA new warning labels (guess they finally got around to checking these things out)
Shawnee123 • Jun 17, 2009 8:42 pm
Guess you'll just have to drink more. ;)

I'd heard that about ibuprofen but I didn't know the warning now covered the others as well.

Yeah, stomach bleeding vs liver damage... choose your poison.

that's my take onpain too. i never take painkillers. Except alcohol ;) -at least that has disinfectant properties too. And preservative ones.

Doctor!

[eta] my right elbow is bloody killing me. Swollen up too. Been days.
Sundae • Jun 18, 2009 3:27 am
I've got the same pain in my thigh as I had last year.
I can't remember what the doctor said then, just that although it feels like I'm ripping things in there, I wasn't before so won't be now.

And I remember there wasn't anything specific I could do except wait for it to go away.
I have a regular appointment on Tuesday anyway, so I'll check it out with her.

Apart from that - not a hurt but some form of damage - my ear is leaking fluid again. It's nominally clear, but when I go to clean my ear the pokey stick gains a yellow tinge. And it smells.

I'm fine otherwise, thanks.

You're supposed to put the perfume BEHIND your ear!
Alluvial • Jun 18, 2009 8:26 am
My feet ache. Looks like they'd get rested overnight, but sometimes it seems like they hurt the most, first thing in the morning. Weird.
Clodfobble • Jun 18, 2009 9:34 am
Alluvial, it could be plantar fasciitis. That hurts worst first thing in the morning. "It is sometimes known as 'flip-flop disease' among US podiatrists."
Trilby • Jun 18, 2009 9:40 am
My posterior tibial ligaments are KILLING me.

thanks for asking.

Juniper • Jun 18, 2009 11:20 am
My cracked heel. :(
smoothmoniker • Jun 18, 2009 11:42 am
My knees have been killing me ever since I started biking to work.

So, I'm chugging Tylenol daily. I guess I need to figure out if I want my heart to go out first from lack of exercise and sedentary lifestyle, or my liver from too much alcohol and waaaay too much Tylenol.

Ah, the joys of middle age.
Clodfobble • Jun 18, 2009 4:50 pm
Is it possible the bike isn't adjusted optimally to your height? My knees used to kill me on my bike until someone informed me the seat was way too low--I was doing all the pushing with my knee joints rather than my quadraceps.
smoothmoniker • Jun 18, 2009 5:16 pm
Yeah, it's set to the right height. We have a great local bike shop, and after I bought it (not from there, even!), the owner of the shop spent about an hour taking me through the paces, getting it adjusted, tweaking things.
Clodfobble • Jun 18, 2009 5:21 pm
Ah well. I guess the bike shop owner didn't show you how to not be old anymore, huh?
dar512 • Jun 18, 2009 5:26 pm
Maybe the bad adjustment on the seat height was the zinger for not buying it there? :D
Bullitt • Jun 18, 2009 5:34 pm
Lower back. Trench-edging around all the mulch beds with a half-length shovel (the kind with a handle on the end, not the proper long kind) sucks.

It's not killing me, it's just hurts, pretty much every day at some point.

My hips are twisted. The right sacral crest sticks out further than the left. I'm sure that's part of it... along with hurting myself 2 years ago at the gym. Old age sucks.
DanaC • Jun 19, 2009 6:09 am
Ouch. That sounds painful. Perhaps now would be a good time to...I dunno...change your doctor to one who'll help? :p

What did you do to it btw?
Alluvial • Jun 21, 2009 8:55 am
Clodfobble;575478 wrote:

Ah, I've heard of that. This is from decades of working on my feet, I'm afraid. It's kind of hard to describe, but it's the bones inside my foot which ache sometimes. Not that part on the heel.

I sympathize about your jaw - I grind my teeth, too. I often have to stretch my jaw out during the day.
Aliantha • Jun 21, 2009 11:31 pm
My index finger on my right hand. If you can believe it, I've sliced it open across the middle of the fingertip with the back of a bread knife. I was trying to cut a block of cold butter.

Sundae • Jun 22, 2009 10:36 am
My thigh is down to just feeling scorched now.
Honestly, it feels like I've scalded the skin on the outside, but only on occasion. It's itchy when I get too hot - like when I've been walking - but tender to touch.

At least the ripping sensation has gone. And I didn't waste the doctor's time this time.

Feet and ankles. Florida is Hell on Earth. With Extra Walking. At least in actual Hell, once you're cast into the lake of fire, that's pretty much it. You don't have to walk anywhere after that.

If I do it again, I will seriously consider renting the fatlady cart.

For a number of reasons, my bass playing has been sporadic lately. And when you play upright you use a lot of back muscles. This morning when I woke up, stretched, and pulled a back muscle.

I don't know what!? (yeah, that joke never gets old for Jim either limey, lol) mine is other than freaking painful. I'm blowing right thru my illicit vicodin stash....
Having some minced garlic for dinner, with a little rice, spinach and hot sauce, to try and kill it. And so I can hold the vicodin down...

Fencing = wearing wire face mask.

Wire face mask = no access to nostrils, except by removing tight-fitting mask.

I guess there was a lot of sniffing.
monster • Sep 22, 2009 9:17 pm
my left thumb. :( I slipped on something and slid along the floor faster and further than i had intended with the step. I retained my balance, but my thumb got "stubbed" on an open closet door and was hammered home by my full bodyweight. Despite ice, it's pretty swollen, tender and I can barely bend it. It isn't broken, though (I think)

BigV • Apr 18, 2012 4:34 pm
My sympathies.

Back in the day when I worked in a tall building, there was a fire drill. We had to evacuate via the stairwells of course and while making one of the u-turns at one of the landings, my foot slipped and "skied" down a couple steps until I was seated on the first step down from the landing. It was a hard smack on my ass but the part that made *me* cry was that my (thinks...) left arm was slightly behind me as I hit and my elbow smacked the cement as hard as everything else. My butt was sore despite the ample padding but I do not have fat elbows. I swear I heard the bone CLICK against the landing and it was sore for months afterward. Crying bone indeed. Sorry. :(
infinite monkey • Apr 18, 2012 4:37 pm
OUCH.

Mine is like tennis elbow or golfer's elbow though I don't play either. I think it's from my arm being up on my desk here. It's the tendon or something. I've had it for some time but I banged my elbow yesterday and now it really hurts!
Blueflare • Apr 18, 2012 5:27 pm
My toe, due to an unpleasant toenail issue. Apparently it's of the untreatable variety, which I suppose means I have it for the rest of my life...? I dunno. My doctor was not exactly forthcoming with information or any solutions, more the it's-not-serious-stop-wasting-my-time-vibe that I always get from doctors. I don't know whether they just don't like me, or they're like that with everyone.
I'm going to go back for a second opinion from someone else, because this is seriously impacting my life. I can't walk anywhere or do anything, and it hurts all the fricken time. Those are legitimate reasons to go to a doctor.
monster • Apr 18, 2012 5:51 pm

Or can you? I don't know how your health coverage works.

Definitely my nose. I went for another bike ride last night, and due to my excessive speed (10.27mph average) I apparently inhaled every pollen particle in southeastern Pennsylvania. (No muscle spasms, though, so that's good.)

Mowing the lawn on Saturday, I inhaled so much pollen, I actually stopped halfway through after a major sneezing fit to go inside, blow my nose, and put on a dust mask. Kind of like closing the barn door after the cows got out, but still better than nothing.

no you didn't.

every car on our lot is covered in a fine yellow haze, and if you drag your fingertip across, it piles up like snow. I never used to suffer from allergies, but this year... Great Odin's Raven, I'm suddenly sneezier than a one armed sneezer in a sneezing contest. Yesterday's rain and cessation of sneezing gave me to know that it was not just a cold. This morning, it's crisp and clear and I'm sneezing again. fuck. this. shit.

50 hours in the sun last week swinging a hammer.

Great to make money again but strange to think of the days when I'd make the same loot in 2/3 of a day.
