Hello! I have a proposal to make to the bored.
I've recently joined up with web board over at principiadiscordia.com. Now even though I've never posted here before (wink wink, nudge nudge), there seems to be some accident of circumstance that has led at least two of the members of said board to conclude that I am the vanguard of an invasion force from -- you guessed it -- The Cellar!
Not being one to disappoint, I thought it might be entertaining if you and I manufactured such an invasion. After all, what could be better than creating a conspiracy for the "benefit" of the Discordian?
I'm not looking to encourage anyone to troll their board, per se. Just, you know, create an account (or reactivate an old one), make a couple posts, leave when you're bored of it. I post under the same name there as here, so if you'd like to elaborate on the conspiracy elements, feel free to make cryptic comments to any of my posts and I'll play along. Or don't, it's up to you.
This can all be in good fun. See you when I see you! (I'll check replies to this post, but I'm primarily following the PD boards.)

If you really are a new poster, then you don't know the history. I suggest you have a read through some of the threads on here, specifically
this one. The last 15 pages or so should do it.
The last fifteen or so pages of that thread appear to be about who is or isn't an instigator, how people feel about each other, and TheMercenary telling people to shut up.
Is there something maybe I should try a forum search for, instead? I tried a "principiadiscordia" one before I registered, but the topics that resulted seemed to have very little to do with any kind of inter-site history. Similarly, there's obviously a great deal of disdain on PrincipiaDiscordia for these forums, but very little actual substance as to why that's the case.
I wish I had a C-clamp big enough to put around my head, so I could just turn it and turn it and turn it till I pass out our explode, whatever comes first.
Hon, they safaried here, they didn't take well to the return visit. Nuff said. It's all done and dusted several times over. Plus they left us a few lunatics who thought they could find a more receptive audience for the BS here (and a couple who wanted to educate us in the error of our forum ways). Now they're paranoid we want "revenge". Now piss off. no offence.

Ali? I'm a bachelor. I get up and ready in about 10 minutes and drive to work and hour early everyday. I zap 2 packets in the microwave and sit in the peace and quiet eating my oatmeal with my hazelnut coffee for a few minutes surfing the web. Its the most peaceful part of my day. DON'T mess with it :)
Well you know, if you had traditional oats, you'd be able to take a whole FIVE minutes to sit and enjoy the peace. ;)
Not only would that cut into my cellar time, but it takes 10 minutes to cook and another 10 to clean it up. Oh and there is nothing to cook it on at work anyway. So there pbbbllllttt.
Actually, when I make mine, I soak it overnight, then cook it for a bit longer than 10 mins. Probably closer to 20. It gets nice and creamy then. Mmmmm...nom nom nom. Clean up only takes 2 mins. 1 pot, and then plates in the dishwasher. Too easy campeze!

Exposition: Arafelis here is a new member to PD.com who it seems has been, only semi-successfully trying to stir the the shit. Deciding this was too big a job to do alone, he decided to come here and recruit you be his lackeys in what was probably the most transparent ploy since the CIA's "exploding clam" gambit against Castro.
Naturally, you all saw through it, even if you didn't know the precise backstory.
Personally, I don't care too much per se about the relationship between PD.com and The Cellar (which is probably bad, since I'm an admin. I'm kind of like that cool teacher, who let you slack off in class, or sit where you wanted, in that respect). I come here on the occasions when I'm free and have nothing to do, and no more.
I'm pretty disappointed in Arafelis, actually. Not just because he thought you were all stupid enough to be his flunkies for no apparent reason, but because he also thought we wouldn't find this out. Its a good rule of thumb to not underestimate people.

There isn't one. Three or four members still frequent the place on a semi-frequent basis, and AFAIK no-one else cares. As with above, I tend to let them run around and do as they please, so long as its not illegal, but I wouldn't assume this was necessarily an organized or board-wide phenomenon.

It had more to do with the screaming and "fucking off" to anyone with any suggestions or advice. I did reach out to Tiki...until she screamed at a couple more of my friends. I still don't DISLIKE her, but I don't live with that kind of thing IRL (gave it up 6 years ago) and won't live with it on the intrawebz.

I wanted to actually participate in the forum, give it a shot (I was not a Safari participant) but I can't tell posts from outside quotes from user titles from advertisements (of little boy computer games) from user quotes from pics from animated GIFs. It's really confusing. What was funny was that I read that the cellar has no substance, because we often link to websites as citation or out of interest, or something to that effect. HA! We don't need all the little fillers that are distracting from the words.
But, YMMV.

The first time I really noticed Tiki was when she started a shit stirring thread against Lj. My second encounter with her was when she threw my well-meant advice back in my face and told me to fuck off. Lj made several attempts to be gently humorous and even explicitly told her that he was joshing her that no actual offence was meant and it's just his sense of humour. She took that to mean he's a jerk, a bad person and had a problem with her personally. He barely had to raise his hand for her to bite it off. She seemed completely surprised and dismayed that he would wish to defend his wife when Tiki attacked her repeatedly: this was the only time as I recall that Lj got serious with her. Prior to that she was choosing (wilfully in my opinion) to take the negative from anything Lj, Undertoad, Shawnee, Jinx, Clod or indeed myself said to her. There's a very fine line between feeling attacked and playing the martyr.
That's a lot for me to say about somebody. I very rarely express such negativity about anyone on these boards, even when we've clashed. Again, I don't necessarily think she's a bad lass. She's got a lovely side to her as well. But she seemed to court drama whilst here and in doing so created a shit storm that I really didn't appreciate. Lj can be a bugger at times. But I've seen him rip someone apart whose really got to him, and that wasn't the case here. he pulled back with her time and again. Offered an olive branch on at least one occasion after the initial unpleasantness when they clashed at the start. She was unwilling to accept his goodwill and instead chose to bear a very vocal and re-occuring grudge. There are others who have done the same, and frankly I have no time for it. Once an argument is done, then let it be done.
I'm sure she's a lovely person. I certainly don't harbour any great dislike of her. I still think she's a very talented writer. But she was utterly disruptive to this board and her hostility levels were off the scale.

I'm not sure I agree with your conclusion, but granting it for the sake of argument, I don't believe your statement is true. By the very nature of pussy-tude, pussies can never actually face the fact that they're pussies. That would be a very difficult and self-critical thing to do. I submit that, by its nature, such a realization is un-pussy-ish. If we are a bunch of pussies, the

Well it might depend what browser you are using, in part, as well as the forum skin. I use Firefox, with the forum default. But usually, the quotes are in the shaded blue boxes. Most people post a link first, then a quote and then a comment if its an outside article. The accounts are pretty customizable and signatures are whatever is below the dull grey line you see in someone's post.

Arafelis lives in the same city as Classicman, I assume, since Red Shirt Riley's email account has his username as part of it (I don't want to give away the full name, to respect his privacy) and Red Shirt Riley and Arafelis are in the same area.
You can reveal their locations if you want, but it wont really do any good. Any area is bound to have at least three different internet providers and so IP addresses. If it gives you a warm glow then go for it, but that aside it doesn't have any real purpose.

As to Cain: I was somewhat pissed off that whilst he was happy to tell your board all about the people who responded badly to his diplomacy, he never mentined the fact that some of us had responded well.
And as to there only being a couple of people over there who hate us; that's clearly not true. A cursory read through of that Arefelis thread shows that several people have reached that conclusion. Not that this bothers me particularly, as the same can be said of us.
The Us and Them attitude sprang up when 'They' came to 'Our' board and started shit storms. I really couldn't care less what happens outside this board, except where it is blatantly unfair (re: Ali).
Reading through your boards there seems to be a culture which grudgingly admires successful trolling and has pride in an ability to raise hackles (see the comments there about stuff said on googlechurch or whatever it's called). Personally, I don't think that's the case here. As someone said the clue's in the name 'discordia'. Well...the clue's in our rules, which describe us as a 'friendly coffee shop without the shop and without any coffee' (used to be our tagline).
This is or was a slowpaced little coffee bar where people gather to chat and put the world to rights. Occasionally we fight amongst ourselves. Occasionally someone comes in and provokes a 'team' like response.
I'd respectfully suggest that what we absolutely don't want, or need, is 'discord'.
As for Tiki: maybe she's been going through a bad time or something; but she was completely off the wall with Lj. It got ridiculous and disruptive. All history now and I wish her well. But start firing shots at 'Us' and it does tend to get unpleasant. As it should. In fact it should have got more unpleasant a damn sight sooner imo. We are a community. In some ways we are a gang (or a collection of sub-gangs :P) I'm happy with that and hope it continues to be the case. No, we are not unwelcoming of newcomers. But nor are we obliged to be nice. This is our tree house: we want it how we want it and it's up to newcomers to either add to that in their unique ways and be welcomed; or cause rifts and fall-outs in whch case the welcome may cease.
I'd be very surprised if Tiki has actually been banned. Most people who get banned from this site have been so on their own request. In the entire time I've been here I've only known two people get banned without their requesting it and one was unbanned within a few hours.

One more point and then I am done with this stupid situation:
Lj tried to offer an olive branch to Tiki. he tried to be diplomatic and shoulder his part of the blame in the argument. As seemed typical of Tiki's time here, when presented with a choice of either a positive or a negative reading of someone's words, she decided to read that as him being forced to 'admit he overreacted' (quote from PD). When someone says they overreacted that's a cue that they are looking for peace. Not for Tiki though: she smelled 'victory' and went in for the kill. She threw that olive branch right back in his face and upped her game. Lj pulled back at that point and tried to stop interacting with her. Until she started launching attacks on his wife. It was at this point that Lj started to get nasty with her, as opposed to his usual slightly abrasive humour. You should get that V. Guys defend their gals, right? Only after that did he start goading her and following her around. Because (and again I think you probably get this) he was angry. Angrier than I have seen him in a very long time.
All this could have been avoided had Tiki taken the olive branch that was offered. But as I say: when presented with a positive or negative reading of someone's words, she would typically take a negative one. Just like she did with Toad. Just like she did with me. Just like she did with a lot of people. Doesn't make her a bad person. Does make it awfully difficult to interact with her.

Its very easy to tell the difference between a proxy and real IP. No hostname, suspicious locations (China, Taiwan) or a tor-node appearing in the hostname if there is one. Or the IP resolves to a cgi proxy site.
I'm not so savvy as to know how to hack Sky's pay for wireless internet. I wish I was, it'd certainly be cheaper.

I also am sure that this stuff doesn't represent the entirety of their scene. But it's distasteful enough to me that I have no desire to stick around. Insults and shitflinging I can live with; the stuff that went on between our two sites at least had a kind of logic to it. It was personal .. and personal sometimes does get nasty. But I cannot see any justification for attacks on dating chatrooms. It says to me that they think extraordinarily highly of themselves, whilst holding a very low and patronising view of the people in those chat rooms. The bombing raid Tggr did here, I thought was a) fair enough given what had been going on, and b) actually quite witty. But I am deeply uncomfortable about people going into a dating chatroom solely to cause trouble and then return in triumph and hold up those chatters as objects of ridicule and disdain, which is essentially the core of that act. It suggests a particularly unpleasant brand of arrogance to me. I want no part of it. And I want no part of any community that would condone or glorify it.
And as for what went on in the sex chat rooms: If any dwellar was to go into one of those rooms and post the kind of vile, misogynistic venom that i saw in that thread, I would feel genuine shame for our community. Disgraceful. Absolutely disgraceful
That's not a condemnation of all individual PDers. It really isn't. They're just people, good and bad. But I condemn the culture that finds that in any way acceptable.
Oh well, I guess they can have a good laugh about it. I'm sorry I bothered getting involved. I feel a bit disloyal now to be honest.
I guess I should have looked around more before trying to be the peace maker, although that being said, I think I'd probably still have wanted to try and make peace one way or another.

Especially after countless complaints by foam and cain (and, I think, others) that it's unfair how Cellar users treat them as collective PD.
I was up over 500 posts there at one point. I realized that the whole point for some of them is to make themselves feel superior and to shit on those around them. I looked around and realized that I was trying to be the voice of reason(fucked up that I should be in that position in the first place.....)...and trying to get them to simply respect my right to have a differing opinion without labeling me(pseudo scientist, randian) and deriding me.
Not everyone did it....but no one there had enough balls, or cared enough to oppose the ones that WERE doing it. So that's why I deleted my content. Because i COULD....and fuck 'em. I rejected them as a whole because of the actions of a few. I figure it's their loss, because I'm really fucking cool. and modest.
Well, maybe everyone has learned something from this experience. Perhaps we have that to thank them for.
Well...again, to be entirely fair Toad, it wasn't in rresponse to one dwellar's insults. The bombing raid occurred after a couple of us got a little feisty with them. Yes, the 'dogfucker' was the final rationale, but that came after a bunch of other stuff. I thought it was witty because...well 'bombing' with a fake internet terrorist org is quite inventive and ultimately not terribly harmful. We had access to the ultimate defence (banning) and that was used and then reviewed when peace broke out.
It was 'fair enough' because it was another sally in whathad essentially become a mini board war in which both sides were active.
But...why attack a poetry site? The fact that the poetry site was 'goth' or 'emo' is not good enough. Maybe there's stuff gone on I don't know about and they had a personal beef with the person who runs the site i don;t know. But poetry is a very personal thing. No matter how shitty things got over here between dwellars and Tiki nobody went into her poetry thread and caused shit. Those who didnt like it just stayed away from it. Her creative act was given at least that much respect. Sure, after she left a few people, who didn;t like her poems had criticisms of it. But they didn't go into the thread (when it was still there) and dump all over it.
We got into a board war with a group who had become our adversaries, because of personal disagreements. Once at war ... well, things can get unpleasant and that's to be expected. But really...shitting all over a dating site where people are just minding their own business, and looking for fun, romance, companionship or even dirty cybersex and then being proud of that is low. It suggests a very low opinion of the people using the site. I can see no justification for it.
Sending a safari here ... well, it was done with humour and and a fairly light touch. Things went awry and our cultures clashed. But that's ok, because in many ways we are equivalent cultures. There is no equivalence with dating sites and poetry forums. They are not the same thing and frankly the nature of the humour employed seems much nastier and much more sinister.
[eta] theres a screenshot in that thread of stuff that was said in the sex chat room. Hideous things about the girl in there. Clearly not true, (she wasnt fat) and I suppose they assumed nobody would take it seriously. I dont know if the girls pictured were really there, or just pics where a bot was working. If the girls were real then what was said was utterly shameful. 'Cause if the girls were real they're probably there for money. Earning a little cash. They don't deserve that. Nobody does.
I think what they choose to do at their own site is their own business. It's never nice to deliberately set out to be nasty to people, particularly those you know nothing about, but we here can't set ourselves up as the saviours of the universe or interwebz. I think we can only choose how we deal with them here. As far as their site goes, the simple way to deal with that is not to go there, which is the choice I'm making. I've just deleted all but my last post (which is likely to get flamed anyway, but I don't care).
As far as the rest of them who continue to post here, they're on their last legs as far as I'm concerned. One more sly remark and they're on ignore. That'll suit me nicely.
Oh I agree. What they do on their own site is their business. And I certainly wasn't suggesting we set ourselves up as anything of the sort. I was merely expressing my distaste for what I have seen there. I feel I misjudged them somewhat. I no longer want anything to do with their culture. And, I don't really feel we need be as accomodating as we have been. When I thought Tgrr was just engaging in a little tit for tat board warfare, I was happy to argue against the ban Toad imposed. This will not be the case in future. Not advocating blanket bans. Just saying my views have changed.

If you're referring to gothpoetry.com, it was attacked repeatedly because a poster at PD ("Poib") posted a poem there, ages back. It was edited by a mod for no apparent reason, in a manner that made Poib look like a racist. Poib complained, so another mod spread his personal information around the board, inviting board members to track him down and harrass him. No explaination was ever given.
That was years ago. We've been fucking with them ever since.

If all you looked at was Apple Talk and Operation Mindfuck, then you haven't really seen the board. It would be like judging The Cellar based solely on the political forum. Take a look at "Or Kill Me" and/or "Think For Yourself, Schmuck" before giving up on it.
