sounds nice - the boss is away, my production is nil. Had a buffalo chicken wrap for lunch - very tasty.

Just got back from CVS where I bought a card for my wife for Mother's Day. It's Sunday, you know. Just in case it slipped your mind.

My mom is traveling in Peru right now. So outside of sending her an e-mail, I'm off the hook as far as she's concerned.

But for my wife, the mother of my lovely children, I still need to finalize the plans for Sunday. After serving breakfast in bed, it will be a hike somewhere. Just got to figure out where. We'll want to go somewhere nice, but not crowded, and not something we've done a hundred times already. Oh, and it should be within an hour's drive. Have to research this a little. Oh, and I need to figure out the breakfast in bed menu and shop on Saturday.

Sushi. Blech. You can have your stinkin' sushi. :p

I'm looking for work. Paying work, that is. Got plenty of the non-paying kind around here, like laundry and mopping.

Hey Flint, what does Pooka actually put in your sushi, besides wasabi? Because I've made it a couple of times for dinner, but I'm always too chicken to actually use raw fish in it, because I just can't fathom the stuff I get from the grocery store being safe enough. And I'd be even more uneasy if I knew it was going to sit in a lunch box for a few hours before consumption.

I'll get her to post a better explanation of what's in it (because I'lll probably mess this up) but suffice it to say that my lunch Sushi doesn't have any fish or raw fish in it, just, like avacado and fake crab and stuff. Oh and you get your high-grade fish frozen, and prepare it while it is still frozen.

Actually Sushi doesn't mean raw fish--that's Sashimi. Sushi actually refers to the special rice used in the rolls (I just learned this...from Pooka).

@Clodfobble: You live in Austin...go to Whole Foods and ask for "Sushi Grade" fish.
(I know I said Sushi doesn't mean fish, this is actually a misnomer, but it is what you ask for, for whatever reason.)

My therapist would not approve of this activity. She would suggest I focus on things that make me feel better. She suggests that I say "Cancel!" to negative thoughts and replace them with whatever I need to think, say or do to feel better. She's very big on Feeling Good. She's right, of course. Nothing comes from negativity. My brain is tired of waking up at the unholy hour and I'm tired of hobbling around on my crone pins (due to - yeah, chemo) until my posterior tibial ligament loosens up. I'm tired of having to exfoliate all this dead skin, tired of feeling tired...look, I'll spare you the more, but masturbation? Nooooooo. I don't even like myself enough to do that.

We get sushi grade fish through the meat company we order from (Town & Country Foods)... but Whole Foods and Central Market carry it. You can also obtain it at Japanese Grocery stores... like Nipon Dido on Westimer in Houston.

An easy spicy tuna roll... chop up the tuna and add some Rooster sauce... it is great!

Eel and Avocado are another real winner. Or if you have the time to make tempura... put some shrimp or veggie tempura in with some avocado or cream cheese...

Leftover raw fish sushi can be tempura battered and cooked... salmon rolls are great this way.

Really the only hard part is getting the rice right and smearing it on thin enough... it is a bit tricky. Oh... and getting it rolled tight enough.

I'm making some sushi for a small dinner party we are having on Sunday... we'll be sure to take some pictures.

Most oriental stores should have the little sushi mats for rolling, makes it a lot easier

And I highly recomend lining your sushi mat with saran wrap... keeps it clean for one, but from my experience it helps achieve a tighter roll... and the roll can then be placed into the fridge while you prepare the rest of the sushi or meal or whatever... I don't slice and plate up the sushi until I have all the rolls made and am prepared to serve them...
