April 29, 2009: Felony Franks

xoxoxoBruce • Apr 29, 2009 3:29 am
Felony Franks, home of the misdemeanor weiner... Food so good it's criminal.
Almost corny enough to make corn dogs.

A man on a mission to give jobs to convicted felons to help them turn their lives around is running into opposition.
It all hinges on a name: Felony Franks.
It has been the dream of Jim Andrews to open a chain of hot dog stands where he gives jobs to ex-felons.
The sign is already up on the first one at Jackson and Western.

That's in Chicago.

Great idea, huh? Now enter Snidely Whiplash... booo hisss

2nd Ward Alderman Bob Fioretti likes the idea of employing ex-felons but hates the name.
He thinks the name and the sign glorify crime.
"Felony Franks? The home of the misdemeanor wiener? Food so good it's criminal? You are actually in a sense elevating the life of crime here in our city and we cannot tolerate that."

C'mon Fioretti, you are "in a sense" being a complete asshole.

Really!?! Glorify crime! Perhaps I have a skewed vision of the whole thing but I fail to see the "glory" in serving dirty water dogs. :headshake

You have to chew them carefully, you wouldn't want to chip a tooth on a file.;)

I wish him well, but he's got a lot of competition here in Chicago. Portillo's is all over the place. Superdawg was on Road Food or some such. And there are a lot of neighborhood places that specialize in hot dogs. They're serious about hot dogs here.

Maybe serving hot dogs will remind the felons of baseball, and baseball will remind them of "three strikes and you're out".
