Time 100 most influential people poll hack

Great story on how Anonymous hacked the Time poll. They made Moot, the 4chan admin, the most influential person in the world. But that wasn't enough; they also controlled the first 21 entries:

To do this, not only did they use automated voting, they did a very sophisticated analysis of the ReCAPTCHA system so that they could continue to pwn the poll after Time took extreme measures to prevent it.

Anything hoping to speak with more authority than the slashdot poll du jour has no business being conducted online.:rolleyes:

Still, tremendously cool hack! Colbert wishes he was this cool.

Wait, you're saying you don't trust the slashdot poll du jour??

That is priceless! I saw that poll and couldn't believe that he won. There were so many other more "high profile" people people on the list.

Hey maybe we could get them to vote for Diz

Hahahahaha best message ever

I have to say, I love Anon. just because of the sheer useless banality of what they do. Sort of a richly ironic counterpoint to all the "real" information out there. Because in the end, "Marblecake also the game" is at least as meaningful as 99% of all media content.

That is some kick-ass Hodge.

So I'm obviously clueless... what's the pop-culture reference for "Marblecake also the game?"
Tiki • Apr 28, 2009 5:10 pm
Marblecake is an IRC channel, and the game is a meta-game of trying to make people think of the game.
Clodfobble • Apr 28, 2009 6:27 pm
As in, "whoever thinks of the game, loses?"

Interesting. My stepdaughter was playing that with her brother the other weekend. Except I know she has no direct connection to anyone who knows about that sort of thing. Must have come through another kid in class, via their parents...

The Game has been around forever... it's not just an internet gag.

If she starts talking about the cake being a lie, etc... worry.
ZenGum • Apr 29, 2009 9:21 pm
Damnit, you just made me lose the game again.

HA! Too late. She watched Mr. Clod play significant portions of Portal, adored the final theme song, and went so far as to hunt it down on Youtube and memorize the lyrics.

Oh, that is evil. :haha:

Another example of why people who post polls as having some sort of statistical significance are wrong. :)
