April 28, 2009: The Beauty & The Beast
This picture came from Flickr but I've lost the damn link. :(
There wasn't much information and I didn't see any names or places.
There wes another not-ready-for-prime-time picture of the water spout that makes me believe it's not Photoshopped.
No matter, the picture stands on it's own.
Toad's note: the image has been removed at the photographer's request as a copyright violation.
That looks more like a water spout than a tornado...and it looks a lot like Coolangatta.
Where ever it is and whatever, it's a great shot.
eta: I should read all the info before I start typing I guess. I see it was identified as a waterspout anyway. :eyebrow:

Found from a quick search on Flickr for "waterspout rainbow". :)
that pic is a perfect metaphor for life.
Sort of a rainblow effect.
The photographer had either:
1). Huge balls
or
2). Great zoom
At any rate it's a great shot. Chance of a lifetime.
Somewherrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrre over the waterspout!
Does the IotD come down? Yr thoughts.
Edit: it's down.
Are we infringing on future profits they would make off this picture? If it's private, should it not be hanging out there on the internet for anyone to see, thus making it impossible for viewing by the general public?
I think we should all "unsee" it. It is obviously a picture that the general masses cannot be exposed to. LOOK AWAY. LOOK AWAY.
That's a shame. His flickr page was dormant for months until this iotd revived it. Fewer people will see his work now. His loss. Ours too.
Maybe it wasn't really his pic to begin with...
Thanks for the link tsibley. By the time I got here it had been taken off the first post.

Excellent, thanks tsibley and welcome to the Cellar. :D Once again a reader comes through.
I didn't actually see the picture on Flickr, I saw it on another site (that I lost the link to :smack:), that said it came from Flickr. On tsibley's Flickr link the name of the photographer is pinoyphotog, which makes me believe it's probably the Philippines or S.E. Asia. That would fit the architecture too.
Oh crap, sorry folks, my bad. :o
Not really your bad. It's the photographer's loss.
And anyway I had a dynamite replacement IotD in my queue :P
Guess he/she has no idea how much exposure he/she is losing. His/Her loss IMO.
If it were my pic, and I was dead set on retaining the rights to it, I would tell Tony, "Go ahead and keep it up, just add attribution and a copyright notice".
Heck, free advertising is free advertising!
I wonder what would happen if a dwellar posted it on, say WTF?
National Geographic called: they said the picture isn't really that good. Can we put it back up now? :right:
"We don't need no stinking badges!"
Be fair, the Google advertising on the IotD might make 50 cents from a day's shot. Pro photographers will lament the loss of that income.
(Flickr is a Yahoo! property, Yahoo! had $6.7B in revenues in 2007.)
Let it go... he asked for it to be taken down, it was. Nothing to see here. Move along.
yah, but he's stoooopid!

If you click on the Flickr link and then this photographer's profile -- it shows that he/she is from South Florida. This person has some other great shots too. Check out Duck Pins.
Guess the thread title should change to "Imagine of the Day". ;)
It is nice to see the matter handled civilly and promptly, but it is a loss for the many anonymous readers of this forum. Only 9 more hours until tomorrow's IotD, though!

better than dropping the soap and getting 'd

Don't knock it 'til you've tried it.
I use a lot of pics from Flickr, but I don't use the "all rights reserved" ones. You just have to look and see if there's a common use license.
Note.
Tony, you really did handle that well. You are , indeed a GREAT person. I've always admired you for online demeanor.
Long live Undertoad.
...and now back to your regularly scheduled programming....

Not really, he contributed to the post by providing the link... that's a good thing and I appreciate that.
When people start clicking on that link it shows up as traffic from the Cellar so they come and see why. Unfortunately I didn't get up in time to move the link to the first post which may have placated pinoyphotog. But that's life.
Besides, it's all Aliantha's fault for putting a post in between the link and the picture. :lol2:
Everything's always all my fault. It's ok. I can live with it.
Hustler gave me carpal tunnel in High School.
So, no.
Everything's not your fault.
Yes, I discovered that just before thanks to Bruce. :)
Right, she wasn't in Hustler... or waaassss sheeee?

I think tsibley helpfully provided a link to the flickr image, which is awesome, and then later, another guy saw the picture, followed tsibley's link back to flickr, and convinced the photographer at flickr that we are evil and were stealing his stuff. I'm not going to name that dude, but it's all in the comments over there.
It's all really a non-event, and we should move on, but I wanted to be clear that I think tsibley is a good guy.
Thanks Capn for your kind words.

Yes, I know who you're talking about. He is a pro user too, but I don't know if he saw the post here, or saw the traffic from here and followed it back.
Problem was, in tsibley's time zone I'm sleeping so didn't get the link moved to the first post. My fault, not his.
