PNC Bank has grown to #5 in the nation. How did they survive the banking implosion?
They were regulated by the government and actually paid attention rather than trying to find a work around, a bypass, to doing the right thing.

They were probably not posting the spectacular spread sheets that the bigger fish showed for the last few years...

but they're still standin', yeah, yeah, yeah! :apimp:

At my old job, one of the student loan reps worked for PNC, and was from Pittsburgh. She was always at the conference and at the night parties, and she was awesome!

Go PNC.

Back in the olden days (6-7 years ago?) the head honcho of one of the big telco companies, AT&T if memory serves, was let go because his company wasn't bringing in results comparable to the competitors. Of course it turned out that the competitors had such great numbers because they had all cooked their books and were handing out bogus financial statements.

They do.. I always thought it was damned good advertising, for them and for Wawa. I admit it's never inspired me to take my banking business to PNC, but I've definitely spent more money at Wawa over the years than I otherwise would have.

According to a PNC executive I was talking to last winter, they simply maintained the same loan practices. IOW they made loans as if they would have to live with the consequences - as every financial institution once did.

However my impression was that he was out reciting the company line. Other sources have said same about PNC and some others (US Bancorp?, a large regional bank in Bergen County NJ, etc). It makes sense. But I have yet to see any confirming information.
