congrats, ali, and daryll! welcome max!
Aliantha • Mar 15, 2009 4:40 am
Thanks everyone. :) It was all pretty straight forward really. My water broke a bit after 2.30am and I started labouring properly at around 6am. He was born an hour and a half later at 7.30am and weighed in at 7lb3oz or 3.2kg.

We're home now. Everything went so swimmingly that they had no objections to my coming home instead of spending the night, so I guess it's game on now.

We have pics which I'll sort out tomorrow. We even have pics of the placenta for those who might need inspiration for their recipes.

Once again, thanks for all your kind wishes. They are very much appreciated.

Oh yeah, looks like I might have more luck breast feeding this time round. He's had three feeds now and seems to be very contented. Here's hoping my milk comes in properly in a few days time.

Lovely placenta you've got there.

I think the slimy, just out shot is absolutely adorable. What a sweetie!
Aliantha • Mar 16, 2009 1:03 am
Sorry Zen...you're welcome though. ;)

Wolf, I got into trouble for bathing him. Apparently the trend now is to leave all the afterbirth on the baby for 24 hours. Helps with immunity apparently.

I hadn't thought too much about my placenta being nice. Mav said it was yuck when he saw the pic. He said the same thing about the black poo. :D

They're really lovely, and completely unexpected. Being into day 4 now I've become quite emotional and let me tell you, when I got home yesterday and they were here I just started blubbering. It means so much to me that you would care enough to think of doing something that sweet. Thankyou to whoever it was who had the idea. I have my suspicions, but I guess if I were meant to know there'd have been a hint. Oh, and nice work with the whale penis reference. :D

Thankyou all for your well wishes. We're all doing well. I had over 6 hours sleep last night, and almost 8 the night before. He's feeding well and seems quite contended most of the time. I did wake this morning with an aching back, uterus and breasts though. So far so good with breast feeding. Hopefully by tomorrow my milk will be more or less in. Maybe I'll have more luck this time around. Here's hoping.

And here's a snap I took of Max last night. :)

He has a very nice nose. Most babies have a squashed nose that doesn't start looking normal until the skull develops a bit. Glad to see him sleeping so mom can get some rest!
anonymous • Mar 18, 2009 1:14 am

Message on Card: Dear Aliantha and Max, Congratulations and best wishes from all your friends at The Cellar.

Special Instructions: Please explain that I tried to order a whale penis but this was the closest they had. Don't worry, this is an in-joke, she will get it. Check cellar.org for the full story.

We'd hoped that the delivery dude would have to explain about the whale penis in person. I was hoping to hear how that went ...

Anyone who wishes to be involved in the sending of the flowers can make a contribution to the tip mug.

Ali, congratulations, hon. Happy (belated) birthday to Max as well! What a handsome little man you have there. The more pix, the better! Congrats to your whole family!
Aliantha • Mar 19, 2009 2:16 am
Thanks again guys. :)

We think he's pretty spectacular at the moment, especially since he's allowing us an average of about 7 hours sleep per night, which means life is a breeze really. I can't believe how lucky we've been.

We're all madly in love with him. It's a bit of a fight to go get him when he wakes from his sleeps. lol Dazza is learning how to be a Dad very quickly although he STILL hasn't changed a nappy yet! He does a lot of doting though...on both of us, so that kind of makes up for it for now. Things could change though. lol

Anyway, life is good. I'm a lucky woman.
Sundae • Mar 19, 2009 4:44 pm
Darling, I'm so sorry I was away for this thread, as I'm sure you know.
You now have THREE beautiful boys (and one beaut of a man of course - blimey, didn't expect the face fungus!) and you are beautiful too.

Sorry me now being around has coincided with your special delivery.
All my love xxx
Aliantha • Mar 19, 2009 7:09 pm
You've got to do your own thing sometimes mate. Your thoughts have been with me anyway. The card was lovely. :) Made my day completely when it arrived.

It's funny that you'd have responded here. I was just talking to Dazza about you...and in a good way too. xox
Aliantha • Mar 19, 2009 7:38 pm
Oh...I found out who was behind the flowers! You've been caught being good! Give yourselves a gold star. :)
Sundae • Mar 20, 2009 5:14 am
Obv I meant "me NOT being around" as opposed to me NOW being around?!

I have my suspicions as to who was behind the flowers too, and they are a very good person.
Aliantha • Mar 20, 2009 9:00 pm
It was a collective effort. :) Apparently there were phone calls involved and everything!
Sundae • Mar 21, 2009 1:01 pm
Do let me know if Mav wants to be a penpal BTW.
Am happy to send at least a postcard every fortnight.
You'd be surprised at how much I can get on there!

ETA - Mum says congratulations. And Dad started singing it (from Cliff Richard's Summer Holiday) so I guess he means it too.
Aliantha • Mar 22, 2009 7:57 pm
That's so sweet of Mum and Dad. :) Tell them I'm very touched and there'll be pictures in the post for you soon.

I haven't had a chance to talk to Mav about the pen pal thing yet, but I suspect that you might end up with two of them in the end if Mav decides he'd like to do it. Aden will just feel like he's missing out on something. lol

You're a doll Cherry. Where would I be without you? xox

Ah shush, You'd be exactly where you are chick.
With two beautiful growing-up-boys, one beautiful babba and a beaut of a husband.

Do let me know.
Two postcards a fortnight are hardly crippling.

And yes, I envy you.
Aliantha • Mar 23, 2009 7:58 pm
Actually Cherry, you personally are responsible for restoring my faith in people online. I was highly cynical and skeptical of people's sincerity prior to the friendship we've formed.

I say thankyou for that. :)
Aliantha • Apr 20, 2009 6:20 pm
Here's a pic of Max with his newest fluffy toy sent to us by Merc and family. :)

Merc, the big boys want to know why there's pink bits on the bunny. lol

Max gained 500grams over the last week. That's a big weight gain. He is a guts though. Lucky he does a lot of flailing or he'd be fat as mud!

TheMercenary • Apr 20, 2009 6:26 pm
We all have pink bits. :D even rabbits.

Glad to see he made it over the ocean without a hitch.

Congrats again. :)
Aliantha • Apr 20, 2009 6:28 pm
Thanks Merc. :) It's a lovely gift. Actually, it's so soft I'm the one that likes touching it more than Max atm. lol

Gee it'd be nice to be a baby again.

He did another smaller one this morning and I swear he actually looked sorry for it. He was looking up at me with his big blue eyes and his bottom lip was a bit quivery. I told him it was ok and that mummy still loves him anyway.

He was happy after that. :)

We also have one of him doing the finger in his sleep. I'll post that when I get it off the proper camera.

Fine looking lad he is - You and Dazza must be so proud. Then again, you do realize that he is just resting up and conserving energy to wreak havoc later
Clodfobble • Apr 28, 2009 2:02 pm
Looooove the mohawk.
Aliantha • Apr 28, 2009 5:47 pm
We are very proud classic. :) He's a pretty good baby though. He's even into a 6 hour sleep pattern at night now, so that's brilliant! He usually goes from about 10.30 to 4.30 (and sometimes even 5.30) so sleep is becoming even more attainable than it was before. Unfortunately, my body seems to be realizing it's exhausted and is lapping up the sleep. When I fall asleep I'm dropping almost straight into deep sleep which is good on the one hand because it's rejuvenating, but on the other, when I get woken up, I really feel like shit for the first 15 or twenty minutes.

Dazza told me he was tired the other day, and I said to him, "you try not sleeping more than 3 hours at a stretch for about 6 months and see how you feel then". I was refering to the latter stages of the pregnancy and the first month or so after the birth. He doesn't get up to do night feeds or anything. I consider that my job since he has to go to work every day, which means he doesn't miss out on any sleep at all. Lucky bugger.

Clod, that's a naturally occuring phenomena. lol It is cute though.

We've always done things the same way. Sure, he changes diapers when he's here and whatnot, but really, I need him to stay employed more than I need my fair share of sleep, you know? If I were working too, then it would be different for sure, but here at home no one cares if I look like crap or can only manage to communicate in single syllables. But I'm in no way against giving dirty looks should he ever complain about being tired. :)

make that three of us. althought thankfully we're way past the middle of the ngiht feeds now. mostly. It only arises now with midnight puking. In theory it's my job, but sometimes it takes two of us to deal. At the weekend, it's all his....inless it need two.

Why two? one to deal with the barfer, and one to change the bed.
