What bits are you missing?

monster • Mar 7, 2009 5:41 pm
Choco's idea following Cloud's bad news about needing surgery.... What internal organs and other body parts are you missing? (that you used to have). Is there an interesting story about it?

Plus, we'll take sanity as a given, and hair on the men over 30 (:p) .... and also that I'm insensitive because you lost whatever it was on 9/11.... [/killjoy]

I am missing my tonsils (removed as a child) and 4 molars removed for the purposes od reducing overcrowding. That's about it. Oh and a suspect mole I had on my shoulder. I'm more complete than I feel!

Beest is missing half his thyroid and two wisdom teeth, all removed since we came to the USA -what is it with you people? :p
Shawnee123 • Mar 7, 2009 5:43 pm
I still have my damn tonsils.

I'm missing the meniscus cartilage in my left knee, basketball injury. All my wisdom teeth, gone.

And a thumbnail. I'm missing that. Where can I get a replacement thumbnail?

:p
monster • Mar 7, 2009 5:56 pm
I wonder hoe close to a complete missing body we can get? Has anyone had a heart transplant?
Undertoad • Mar 7, 2009 5:59 pm

Seriously. You're cute as hell. :)
Chocolatl • Mar 7, 2009 6:11 pm
So far, I am only missing my gallbladder. I can't help but imagine a little empty space where it used to be, and I always imagine that that area of my abdomen is concave, now.

I spent a long time insisting I needed to have my wisdom teeth removed, only to find out recently that I don't have any in the first place.

I guess if anyone has had Lasik, we might have a few pieces of eyeball missing?

Oh yeah, I'm missing my front tooth. Bridged now, but it happened in 2nd grade after I was chasing Steve on the playground. I fell and my tooth went up into my head...surgeries later they bridged it but not until I turned 18 and my head stopped growing. It's like caps only the left front one isn't hooked to anything.

Poor Sister Norbertine called my mom and was crying because she thought if she found my tooth they could replant it. Turned out it was behind my nose. LOL.

Choco...how can you not know you didn't have wisdom teeth? They're very crowding. :)

That's why I thought I had them! My mouth has always felt very crowded and I was convinced I had a few wisdom teeth to remove. I finally asked the last time I was at the dentist and he was baffled -- no wisdom teeth on the x-ray. Apparently this is what people's mouths feel like all the time?
Shawnee123 • Mar 7, 2009 6:31 pm
I've heard that sometimes people don't have wisdom teeth. In my case they never surfaced but were threatening my other teeth. I went completely under for removal, having been given a choice. I did not need to go though what I went through with my teeth as a kid and young adult. It was constant, it seemed. Orthodotic appts were just another thing to do during the week, as they tried to fix me.

Depends on your genetic background.

Different human populations differ greatly in the percentage of the population which form wisdom teeth, ranging from 0.2% in Bantu speakers to nearly 100% in Mexican Indians.

Sadly, I had all four of the damn things and they all had to come out. I wasn't put fully under for the procedure -- doc said I was awake and aware the entire time. Along with the nitrous, they administered a drug that blurred my mind enough that none of the memories of the incident remained. ...which is a very good thing, being that the procedure involved a hammer and chisel.

Conversations about dental surgery require this video be included by law:

Jaydaan • Mar 7, 2009 8:45 pm
4 teeth when I was a teen, for over crowding as well. Then my 4 wisdom teeth later on..... no other bits on me. However I have 2 friends that have BOTH had heart transplants. One, as a child, then AGAIN in his 20's. The other in his 30's. Cool people, cool stories. The one that had his transplant woke up after the drug induced coma on 9/11!!! he thought to himself..." great I finally get a chance on life, and world is blowing up!" He also says he now likes things he didn't before, such as mushrooms.... hated them before, no loves them.

Tonsils/adenoids (what a fucking ripoff! they told me tales of limitless ice cream I got nada. that's where the trust went south)
Lower wisdom teeth
Two lower incisors maybe some upper incisors, I was pretty out of it...

and that's it, as far as I know. Wait, what the?

I got yer missing cornea, right here. About 700 nanometers of it (times two,) which is a lot when you're talking about removing cornea. In fact, I must not have any more removed with future surgeries, lest my eyeball get too thin.
classicman • Mar 7, 2009 10:49 pm

Hair
A few slivers of cornea
Enough teeth to retooth the NHL and Kentucky
tonsils
adenoids
half a thyroid
a few moles

appendix
gall bladder
foreskin
knee cartllage

it's not enough, people!

I can supply the lens to fit behind that (damaged in an accident and replaced with a plastic lens).

Welcome, Siren.
Sadly, we already have wisdom teeth.
Still, they might be worth something on the ivory market ;)

Unless we are going to make a ship out of them...
Then the ship Naglfar (‘Nail farer’), will break loose: this is made from the nails of dead men. Hrymr (‘Noisy’) is the name of the giant who will be its captain. The wolf Fenrir will step forward with gaping mouth, his lower jaw against the earth, and his upper against the sky – he would gape even more, if there were room; fires blaze from his eyes and nostrils. Then the world serpent will blow venom, sprinkling all the air and water. The sky will be split in all this din, and the sons of Múspell will ride out. Surtr will ride first, with fire all around him, carrying a mighty sword brighter than the sun. They will ride into the world of the gods over the bridge Bifröst (‘Shimmering way’), and the bridge will break. All the forces will gather on the field of Vígríðr, and the last mighty battle will take place there.

Oh, sorry that was nails (and a theory now disproved) (Link to Snopes).

How about a whore-ish person?
I have my price... and it's pretty much guaranteed to be $1 less than the next best offer!

I can contribute some skin. Nice skin too, young and tender - I always peeled as a child. Mum tried to marry her obsession with fresh air with my fair skin, and something always got burned. Me. She became more careful after I kept getting sunstroke and ruining teatime by being explosively sick and then whining all night..

Oh and the bits of flesh I left on the pavements of Aylesbury while I was still physically brave.

And blood? You'll need that too. I've been a blood donor for nearly 20 years now. And lord knows how many blood tests (I had three just this morning. She had nearly an armful out of me I can tell you!)

See, I can contribute when I put my mind to it!
