Isn't "dan" referencing "charlie bit my finger?"

If it's any consolation Lj, I have introduced into my circle as a meme...

What is a meme?

It's what you say when they're offering out free cookies.

Example of use:
"Anyone want a free cookie?"
"Me! Me!"

My household was late to the whole "charlie bit my finger" thing. It took a few weeks of my son coming home from school saying "charlie bit my finger" before I bothered to look it up. He hadn't even seen it, just heard about it from the kids at school. The Cellar really let me down on that one.

BTW, a meme is a catchy idea that makes the pop culture rounds.

Ooooo that video of Charlie bit my finger was too cute! "OW! Char-LY! That really HURT!" the look on that kids face is precious!

From wiki:

meme (pronounced /miːm/ - like theme) is a unit or element of cultural ideas, symbols or practices; such units or elements transmit from one mind to another through speech, gestures, rituals, or other imitable phenomena. The etymology of the term relates to the Greek word mimema for mimic.[1] Memes act as cultural analogues to genes in that they self-replicate and respond to selective pressures.[2]

Richard Dawkins coined the word "meme" as a neologism in his book The Selfish Gene (1976) to describe how one might extend evolutionary principles to explain the spread of ideas and cultural phenomena. He gave as examples melodies, catch-phrases, and beliefs (notably religious belief), clothing/fashion, and the technology of building arches.

Thanks Dana. I've only ever met it on blogs where it seems to mean shared questionnaire. And I thought it was pronounced meh-meh ... :o
