hint there's a geographical reason it looks that way
glatt • Feb 19, 2009 10:28 am
If it was surrounded by desert, you would expect a lot of sprawl. But the grid pattern is too perfect for it to be surrounded by mountains. The city looks flat. So maybe it is desert.

It's awfully bright in the very center, like a Strip of some sort of bright lights.

That's funny because I was sitting here thinking that there is no way it could be Colorado.........lol. I feelz dumb. :)
Shawnee123 • Feb 19, 2009 3:29 pm
Eh, there's a reason I hate geography. I can barely find my own town.
glatt • Feb 19, 2009 3:42 pm
These are not easy. I mean, if it's your hometown, or a place you have visited a lot, then you should be able to get them, but otherwise, it's just some streets and an airport.

This one has vegetation so it's not in the desert. It's got dense residential development, close to the airport, which is interesting. Almost like the airport is near downtown. No river in the shot.

I got nothing.

I've never really been, but the airport seems a little small for it to be Vegas.

I'm going to keep guessing Vegas on these until I'm right.
Undertoad • Feb 19, 2009 4:09 pm
It's Vegas.

The Black Sea. And I didn't cheat this time.
glatt • Feb 19, 2009 5:02 pm
That really is a beautiful image. I love how because of the curvature of the Earth, you have the Western half of the sea reflecting some glare from the sun, but the Eastern side isn't. I also really like the swirls in the water. It's probably pollution of some sort, but it's still pretty.
Undertoad • Feb 19, 2009 5:12 pm
Yes, Black Sea. Wiki says:

The Black Sea underwent a catastrophic environmental collapse in the early 1990s caused by chronic nutrient pollution from farms, feed lots, and municipal sewers throughout its vast watershed. Massive algae blooms resulted in hypoxic conditions across the ecologically-critical northwest shelf, wiping out much of the flora and fauna there. Perhaps because of the attendant ecological disruptions, an alien species - Mnemiopsis leidyi -- was able to establish itself in the basin, exploding from a few individuals to an estimated biomass of one billion metric tons.[16]

Recently, scientists have noted signs of ecological recovery, in part due to the collapse of agriculture (and subsidized fertilizer usage) in much of the lower Danube basin and the construction of new sewage treatment plants in Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, and Bulgaria in connection with membership in the European Union. Mnemiopsis leidyi populations have been checked with the arrival of another alien species which feeds on them.[17]

yes, nice find, glatt. - It is, or was, a power station.

Well, I can probably find the park by cheating, but I won't do that.

It's the Battersea power station (thanks mr. floyd) and that makes this Battersea park. Good one Scriv!

A lake amongst rollicking vegetated short mountains, and an F-15? I have no idea but I'll try to get a hint: Scotland?
Scriveyn • Mar 1, 2009 4:11 pm
Close. - It's amazing to sit on top of a hill and look down on fighter planes - usually in pairs - going through , even seeing the pilots and tourists waving at them.

I spent some time at RAF Fairford but there were no mountains around there so it must be in the North.
Scriveyn • Mar 2, 2009 10:25 am
ok, more diffcult than I had thought. - It's the Lake District (yes, it's in the north of England). The town is Keswick and the lake is Derwent Water. The F-15 I caught next to Buttermere, a lake nearby.

So here's something easier I should hope:
