If I had to do it over again...

I'd give my first child the middle name of "Danger" (so he could always say...)

And my second child the middle name of "RobinHood".

Taylor Danger and Daniel RobinHood. Really cool middle names are so rare...

Mine is Marie. Every Catholic girl's middle name is Marie.

what would you do differently with your/your kids name assuming you would?
Aliantha • Feb 10, 2009 8:31 pm
Wow we have something in common. My middle name is also Marie, only with two e's so it's Maree. I was also christened catholic.
Shawnee123 • Feb 10, 2009 8:42 pm
Either Marie, or Ann, or Nicole. ;)

My mom gave me a weird middle name, so I'm good. No, I'm not telling...

added: It's not really weird, it's just different. Hated it growing up.

There's a scene from, maybe the first episode of the TV show Brooklyn Bridge, where Alan is being introduced to a bunch of girls . . . "This is Mary Ann .... and Mary Jane .... and Mary Elizabeth ... and Mary Louise . . . . . . "

We tried to pick very straight-up, obvious names that wouldn't be hard to pronounce or spell. I'm happy with them.

However, my dad's middle name is Allen. (In fact, this is what his mother and all her relatives called him, though nobody else ever has to my knowledge.) When I got hold of a genealogy of the family one of his distant cousins did, I learned that Allen had been a middle name for 4 or 5 generations back. If I had known that before my son was born, I'd probably have suggested that for him.

My youngest is Shannon. If she was boy it was going to be Sheamus, which rhymes with our last name. No one liked it. I didn't care. Ah, but it was a girl.

My wife has a middle name of Marie. 6th generation of first born woman with the middle name Marie. I think that is pretty cool.

I named all of my children exactly what I wanted. I have a Shane Ryan, Mikayla Rose, and Brianna Dilara. I wouldn't change a thing.

My middle name is Elizabeth. Growing up I told everyone I was named after the Queen...I was kinda sad when I found out it was really only a great aunt. My initials used to spell my first name in its shortened form. My Mom said she did that deliberately...I actually believed her for a while.

I wanted to name my son Samwise (this is before the LOTR movies were made) but now I'm glad we didn't. His middle name is Hugh, and I wanted it to be either Lugh or Christopher after his father.

Youngest child I wanted to name Phaedra but ex-hubby preferred Ophelia and I let him have his way.

those ARE some pretty cool names! I LOVE Pendragon. I coulda named him Daniel Pendragon! That would have been soooooo cool!

*his father, a DeadHead, said I could name him Jerry or Bobby or Phil. I felt LUCKY to get away with 'Daniel'

his real middle name is...Neil. Yeah, after Neil Young. Sheesh!

I see that, baby.

Catholic here too. We are all Anthony, tho were are all shortened down to Tony, Big Tony, Little Tony, T-2, T-3, Ant, Tone, etc.
Wish I had saved my firstborn the tradition of, well, being a tradition.

I have to say that I think it's funny that Americans are all into naming traditions and stuff, because I would truly have classified that as an olde Englishe type thing until I moved here.

I don't know anyone in the UK who has the same name first name as their father. There are certainly no "Juniors" and "the thirds" ...even in the monarchy. there's none of the "Yes he's Chuck A. Bucket II, we're gonna call him Deuce"

the middle names, yes there is often a hint of family in there, but usually just grandparents' names.

For those who haven't seen it in the zillion other threads, these are our sprogs' full names:

Hebe Amazon Petra Beestmonster
Hector Pendragon James Beestmonster
Thor Artemus George Beestmonster

they rock. I don't care what you say, and I spit on your stupid standardized forms that can only cope with one middle name :p

Yet another way in which we have codified monotony.
Clodfobble • Feb 12, 2009 6:04 pm
My stepchildren have two middle names AND a hyphenated last name. Standardized forms tend to spit back on them.
monster • Feb 14, 2009 10:27 am
 they are a complete pain in the arse, aren't they?
Clodfobble • Feb 14, 2009 12:05 pm

My nephew has two middle names: both his grandfathers' names.

I have two middle names, but one is out of permanent loan ...

The eleven year-old daughter of an acquaintance was hassling her mum for a middle name because she didn't have one (really she was trying to get her mum to marry mum's then boyfriend, I think ...). So, in jest, I told the girl I had two middle names and she could borrow one of mine if she promised to take care of it. I let her choose one of the two names and it's now hers, so long as she looks after it. She was thrilled, and still proudly uses this middle name two years or more later. Whenever I see her I ask whether she's dropped it, or scratched or damaged it in some way and she says no, she's taking good care of it and wants to keep it.

This is a true story.

Limey, that's absolutely lovely. What a fantastic little story.

I have two middle names. Sara and Eleana. Eleana was for my maternal Nan (thought everyone called her Nelly), Sara was just a name Mum and Dad liked I think, though it may have come from Dad's family initially. So full name: Danielle Sara Eleana C.

My Bro's middle name is Frank. That's usually the middle name of the first born sons in Dad's family. A tradition about to die, if he doesn't have any boys :P

The girls both have nice middle names (Nash and Miranda) Amelia Nash and Sophie Miranda. I don't think either of them were chosen with any family significance.
