Jan 22, 2009: Cantilevered Bridge

This is about the strangest bridge I could imagine. Actually I wouldn't have imagined it, or even believed it before I saw the pictures.

It's pretty simple and really rather ingenious, using a minimum of materials and minimum footprint on valuable land.

This bridge is in Leeuwarden, Netherlands... it looks like something York would build for his daughter. :haha:

Wonder if it could be super powered. Bet it could really launch those cars high.:D

They should've added a big head on it.

Very very cool.

Pretty cool...even if it does look like a giant spatula.

They should use these instead of the rising bollards.

..or something Wile E. Coyote would order from Acme.

That's funny; I regularly drive over that bridge! If you are used to it, it's not that special; but looking at the pictures it's actually pretty cool.

By the way; the sky is typical dutch... a 'hollandse lucht' (almost always dark and threatening) (http://www.dutchlight.nl/www/html/eng/film/home.htm)

Well hello Linnepin! Welcome.

The Netherlands is (are?) one of my dream vacations! OK, Holland is one of my dream vacations.

Hello!
'Nederland' is flat, has a sea-climate (wich explanes the threatening skies and lot's of rain :-( ) But is also a lot more than windmills, wooden shoes, smoking pot (amsterdam); it has a rich history and beautiful landscapes and old cities.

That's why i want to go. Plus, I'm a huge fan of Van Gogh, and would like to go to the museum.

I've heard wonderful things, and think I would love it there. Oh, and I love rain...so I also have that!

That bridge just looks so... polite. I'd want to hang a towel over one of its arms. How many yards of terry would that be?
capnhowdy • Jan 22, 2009 6:06 pm
Welcome, Linnepin!
I'd like to visit your country also.
Enjoy the Cellar.

Hi, Linnie! I'd also like to visit. Is it okay if I drop by about 3pm? :D
Crimson Ghost • Jan 23, 2009 1:00 am
You had me at 'smoking pot'.
xoxoxoBruce • Jan 23, 2009 2:44 am
Hi Linnepin, I know what you mean about seeing something every day and are surprised when someone seeing it for the first time finds it amazing.
The Netherlands has lots to see, like this advertisement.

Welcome to the Cellar.:D

"Hi, Linnie! I'd also like to visit. Is it okay if I drop by about 3pm?"

You're welcome! 3pm dutch time I presume? I live in a mediaeval Hansa city with a "special" bridge! It has golden wheels!

See you about 3pm! :-)
