Super Bowl 2009

Steelers vs Cardinals

yawn.

i would have liked to see the Eagles make it, if for no other reason than the novelty of an all PA bowl.

Steelers will win by 15.
classicman • Jan 18, 2009 10:37 pm
Who cares anymore - - the Eagles lost. No one cares about the cardinals - I know they'll try to sell the Cinderella story and all that, but seriously, outside of their local market no one cares. Go Steelers - at least they are in my state.

The Cards are mf'n carpetbaggers, don't belong in Phoenix. The Cardinal isn't even a native bird to there ... I don't much care about moving teams, but teams that move need to leave the name behind (and yes, I know that the Cards came from Chicago to St. Louis, but it's the principle, you know. The name belongs to the City, not the team). They should be called something like the Phoenix Cactuses or Roadrunners or Prairie Dogs or something like that.

Go Steelers, since I have to have someone to root for.

Besides, I'm really in it for the commercials.

It is a little weird having retired names from other cities on your stadium. I like the matchup because I think the Cards would be easier to beat than the Eagles. Sorry Philly couldn't pull through, better luck next year. I just hope Ward can play.

I hope McGahee pulls through, it may be time to rethink the helmets.
classicman • Jan 19, 2009 8:26 am
go steelers whoopie. thats about all the excitement I can muster for this one. hope its entertaining.
Griff • Jan 19, 2009 8:52 am
I think it will be. Warner is always a threat and the Steelers offense looks better when playing non-Ravens.
W.HI.P • Jan 19, 2009 1:02 pm
what a messed up superbowl.
i don't agree with the way the cardinals have been run as a franchise.
i don't agree with the way the steelers have been run as a franchise.

media will determine where i put my money, but overall, i won't be cheering for either team.
i bet on arizona to win their division... i was also aware how weak the teams in the nfc were, but i certainly didn't imagine that the cardinals could get to where they are.
...on to the stanley cup now

don't worry whip...whether you know it or not, the steeler's season is over
Griff • Jan 19, 2009 1:34 pm
Fitzgerald presents a huge problem but they should be able to stuff the run. If they protect Ben they should be okay, but that has been the issue all year.
Wickedly_Tasteful • Jan 19, 2009 3:00 pm
LETS GO STEELERS!!!!!!!!!!
Elspode • Jan 19, 2009 7:05 pm
Bidwell is always going to be a pariah in this state, spiriting away the Cards from St Louis, and breaking up a perfectly good baseball/football name pairing.

I'm ready to watch the Steelers kick the Cards' collective asses.

the future is not gonna be so bright.
they have some serious problems within that can only get worse in the upcoming years.
teams have to recycle, the steelers, just like the patriots, are at the end of their line.
its a fact of the sport, its a fact of the buisness.
age and contracts catch up to you.

rebuilding time is ahead.
years must be sacrificed in order for a franchise to rebuild.

.....as i said, i don't agree with the way these teams are run at this time..... it results in a decade, if not more, of being under par.
TheMercenary • Jan 20, 2009 5:42 am
Steelers by 10
classicman • Jan 20, 2009 9:50 am
So what WHIP? - They play the game to W-I-N. Getting close or being competitive gets old quick. I'd trade a decade of crap for a superbowl champion in a second. At that rate the Eagles would have three! The alternative is a waste of time... "also rans" second best... who cares? Win or STFU. Thats the deal.
Shawnee123 • Jan 20, 2009 9:55 am
Is Rothlicksberger broken or something?
glatt • Jan 20, 2009 10:23 am
I'm only going to watch for the 3D commercials. Get those 3D glasses at your local supermarket's Pepsi display. And then save them to watch Chuck in 3D a week or so later.
Clodfobble • Jan 20, 2009 10:25 am
So, does this mean that if I don't have the glasses, my episode of Chuck will look all screwed up?
classicman • Jan 20, 2009 10:29 am
Good Idea glatt! That'll make it 3d more interesting.

That's what I'm afraid of.
W.HI.P • Jan 20, 2009 4:50 pm
as i said, i don't agree with the way these teams are being run, not you.

i believe in keeping a team young.
getting rid of the old [with very few exceptions].
having a large gap of salary cap space.
i believe in having a 3-13 season when your team is capable of going 9-7 to get that heavy duty 21 year old dl or cb etc.

i don't agree with adding a huge contract older player from the free agency like the patriots have been doing.

it results in a team going 3-13 because thats all the team is capable of.
i believe in a franchise creating a dynasty.

With Kurt Warner leading this team i can see the Cards go real far in the playoffs or even to the Super Bowl. If this defence can stay healthy they are a well rounded team. i cant see the Rams doing anything in this with S. Jackson hurt even if he does play. The Rams also have a few starters banged up on their d. The Rams fans will se a great show on turf but not by their team.
Best bet of the week. Take the Cards

this is what i said back in week 9. The cards will cover this weeks spread and will win the superbowl.
lumberjim • Jan 28, 2009 7:51 pm
for some reason, I'm having a hard time with your credibility.
classicman • Jan 28, 2009 8:34 pm

How much does Springsteen suck? Good band...he sucks.
Bullitt • Feb 1, 2009 8:40 pm
He's just following the halftime show rule: it will suck, period.
Shawnee123 • Feb 1, 2009 8:47 pm
True. At least he didn't have a wardrobe malfunction.
Shawnee123 • Feb 1, 2009 9:49 pm

Go Cardinals.
W.HI.P • Feb 1, 2009 9:54 pm
right on ... 23-20 arizona, 2 minutes left,3rd down steelers.
1 sack should win the cardinals the game.
Shawnee123 • Feb 1, 2009 9:57 pm

Perfect..the biggest asshat qback ever gets a super bowl win.

I've heard people who went to college with him (Miami U in Ohio) say he was a jerk there.

I thought the Cards deserved to lose for throwing a 100-yard INT return.

Then I thought the Steelers deserved to lose it for calling QB Draw at 3rd and goal at the 4.

Then I thought the Steelers deserved to lose it for letting Warner romp down field with 5:30 left.

In the end the better team won.

yeah, he was. My brother went there while Ben did and his asshattery around campus was legendary.

This.

Although I was basically indifferent to the two teams, my preferred gladiators have emerged triumphant ... at least they're from Pennsylvania ... would have preferred Steelers/Eagles Stupid Bowl, but I take what I can get. (Okay, I would have actually preferred Bears vs. Anybody in the AFC, but well, I take what I can get).

Given the current economic crisis, I wasn't expecting much from the ads. Couple good movie trailers ... I can't wait to see Angels and Demons and Star Trek. I LOL'd at a couple, including Doritos Crystal Ball, Bud Horse Love, Cheetos Pigeons, Career Builder Wish You Were Somewhere Else, Punch Small Animals, and oh yeah ... Cash4Gold.com with Ed McMahon's Golden Toilet and M.C. Hammer's Golden Pants.

One of the funniest to me was the one with the moosehead on the boss' wall, and the moose ass on the employee's, but that one loses advertising points because I don't know whose ad it was ... was that monster.com or some other career site that may have run other ads? If I don't know the ad agency didn't do it's job, no matter how cool I think the moose thing was. Okay, it's so totally a cliche that I used the moosehead/mooseass thing in a D&D game I DM'd this one time ... actually the commercial would have been a lot better if the mooseass had dumped on the employee's head.

Interesting side note on Cash4Gold's commercial: They had run late night commercials for a while, but just prior to this big super bowl commercial, they tried to clean up their image on the web. Rob Cockerham, of Cockeyed.com fame, had written about his friend's experience dealing with cash4gold, and how they try to rip you off. Because of Cockeyed's popularity, this article is ranked #2 in Google search results. If you do a google search for cash4gold, the second thing listed is "Cash4Gold Will Offer One-Third of the Actual Value for your Gold."

Needless to say, cash4gold doesn't like the negative publicity, so they offered Rob "a few thousand" to take the article down. Instead, he wrote about their offer.
