That was officially a scrap afghan. Then I ran out of enough scraps that worked okay together, and I had to buy enough yarn to finish it out. The dark green stripe actually has about four inches of navy blue to finish it out, because I knew that I would never be able to match the color, so I just gave up. had chosen the white as the edging color when I started it, so I intentionally bought that.
When I had enough strips to finish it, I laid them out on my dining room table and kept moving them around until I found a color pattern that I could live with. I'm quite happy with how it came out, as well!
(Still looking for the windowpane afghan. I KNOW I've seen it somewhere, may even have a book with it in, but I haven't seen most of the craft books since the move. Yes, I did move more than a year ago. I have a lot of books, even after walking away from at least 1/3 of them.
This is similar as far as bright colors in squares, but it is based on a granny pattern.
