Dealing with Piracy

Arm the ships. Surely that would be more effective than trying to patrol every inch of ocean.

Actually it turns out they have some long-range sonic blaster that hits the bad guys with 150 db of screech.

Here is how you stop pirates. Don't miss the, uh, colorful description of how one man stopped the taking of a luxury cruise ship in 2005:

You'll want to read the 2005 story to get perspective because it just happened again, today, but this time they not only applied the sonic weapon but also outran the pirates:

The problem with an armed ships is most countries won't allow them in their territorial waters.

Aaah, yes, CWIS (pronounced "See - Whizz"). Also known to the Admirals as "R2D2 with a Hard-On".

Couldn't we just get some sharks with lasers on their heads? That would be cool. They could be trained to protect the ships and they could even have a ready made soundtrack.

They should all be keel-hauled after stipping off all of their clothes. I'd take my time, but would make sure they didn't drown. The after-affects will take care of them very well indeed, thank you very much.

"Fire!" bbBBBRRRRRRRRIIIIIIPPPPPaahh!

Rotary guns don't sound like machine guns -- something nearer an air hammer, tearing canvas, and a chainsaw motor with the muffler broken off. You can hear them come up to full speed from starting a burst, and there's a bit of a sound afterwards if the range is long enough. I'm not sure if we're hearing a column of bullet-disturbed air or what. Maybe I was hearing a jet... but there does seem to be a faint sigh when the burst is over.

The twin fifties presumably have the ground-gun cyclic rate and would sound like a deeptoned TUMPTUMPTUMPTUMPTUMPTUMP.

7.62mm machine guns like the M60 actually do go rattatattat.
