November 19, 2008: Lucky Dog

The motorist, Marco Menozzi, didn't even stop when he mowed down the one-year-old pooch while doing 70mph on a side road in Cozze, southern Italy.

But he hit the dog so hard he was embedded in the grill under the bonnet of the Peugeot 207 and managed to cling on until the car eventually stopped.

Vets have treated the stray for a broken leg and bruising and he's now in a police pound looking for new owner.

"He's a very lucky boy. He was saved because he was hit so hard. Any softer and he would have bounced off the car and been crushed under the wheels," said a police spokesman.

A very lucky dog, I hope he finds a good home... close enough to Marco Menozzi that he can go over and bite the bastard. :cool:

And yeah, I'd go and bite the sod who failed to stop after hitting an animal. Chomp chomp.

I'm surprised the Peugeot didn't die, or at least get a broken leg.

What an arsehole. I just can't believe people don't stop when they hit animals, especially domestic ones.

He didn't need to stop! Just brought the dog with him...

They still make Peugeots? I haven't seen one of them in forever.

I heard about this on the radio yesterday morning. I had a completely different picture in my head when they said the dog was "embedded in the grill". :greenface

It looks like the car tried to bite the dog.

Awwww, he's so cute. (well you can't see much of him but he's still cute) I hope he finds a nice home.

Oh blimey yes - very popular car in this country. I don't think they make them big enough for Americans is all. I've owned 2 Peugeot 205s myself.

I had the same reaction when my ex husband stayed up to watch the infamous Tyson/ Holyfield fight with a group of friends. When he came to bed and responded to my sleepy question with the answer, "Tyson bit Holyfield's ear off" I lay awake for ages, with visions of a baying crowd approving, while Tyson ran around the ring, shaking the large piece of grisly tissue in his teeth like a dog. It was such a relief to see what really happened.

It kind of looks like the pooch might suffer more from extrication than from ingestion.

What a big dick head :finger: that guy is, I only hope the dog does eventually track him down and bite him on his ass and pisses all over his car when he's better.:moon: God I would be so distraught if I even hit a little mouse. Fingers crossed, I've never hit anything.

I hope that poor little doggie goes to a nice home. I would adopt him but I'm in Australia.

I think they should just use a crobar and do as much damage to the car as possible.

I'll bet the dog doesn't have insurance. :)

I haven't seen a dog on a grill since I went to that Chinese cookout.

Dog is my co-pilot.

Maybe the guy was an Atheist and he was driving backwards, and he just didn't believe he'd hit a doG.

I've never met a Marco I liked.

Regarding the thread title...I have a hard time imagining any living thing in the position which that pooch was in as being "lucky".

Of course it would be a stray. If it were associated with an owner, I'd sue the owner for any damage to my car. If I'm supposed to keep my car under my control, you gotta do the same w/your dog.

Marco Bennett bit me on the arm when my Mum was having her hair cut by his mother. It's one of my earliest memories.

With no further data available I have to conclude that all Marcos are morally suspect.
