November 11, 2008: Fall in Cellarland

The Susquehanna River in Lancaster County, PA, is a beautiful place year round, but the fall is even more gooder. :D

This picture was posted on Wunderground by, Dr David Newcomer, a native of Lancaster County, and voted by Lancaster County Magazine as "Best General Surgeon". So if you don't like his pictures, don't tell him because he could cut your heart out... literally. :lol2:

I don't think that will be a problem though, his photography is first class.

Image

His caption:
Colorful fall foliage paints the shoreline of the Susquehanna River just below the Holtwood Dam and Norman Wood Bridge about 45 miles south of Harrisburg, PA. Geologists believe the Susquehanna is one of the oldest river systems in the world and may have been in existence before the break up of the supercontinent Pangea over 300 million years ago.

Oh, and what was the Dr. doing up in the airplane? Maybe getting ready to jump out... he's done that 794 times, so far.

Doc, don't jump out of the plane near those power cables!

Think of how many places in our country used to look like this. Sad that this has to be the exception and not the rule..."and they paved paradise and put up a parking lot".

Here's the location in Google Maps, satellite view. They should take the map images in the fall.

I wish I could say I can see my house from here. My grandparents' old house, now cousin's house is probably in it, in the distance. J's asshole ex is just out of view to the right.

Look really close at the bridge. There, see it? That's a homemade Lamborghini, doing 140.

xoB, when you say "fall," are you referring to the season or to how the photographer is getting from the airplane to the ground?

Hey, I know that place. It's right by Lock 12 not too far from my parents' place. I've walked the entire distance on the catwalk that runs beneath it, and the best view I've ever seen can be seen by walking about halfway out and climbing onto the cement pillars.

Meh, looks like a bushfire has been through after a drought.

Awesome really.

I see a cloud that looks like a seahorsie!
