Perry Winkle • Nov 11, 2008 8:02 am
Thanks everybody, for the cajoling a few months ago and the congratulations now. It was worth the pain and loans, I think.

For those that asked, my degree is a Master of Science in E-Business and Information Systems. It covered some organizational theory, information theory and application development. And a lot of bullshit.

To celebrate my parents, brother, girlfriend and I are going to Ray's the Steaks when my brother is home for Thanksgiving break.
Treasenuak • Nov 11, 2008 8:25 am
-applauds and hands out the beers for an all-night Cellar Kegger held in Perry's honor- Way to go!! Proud of ya!

w00t! Are you back in the US now?
Perry Winkle • Nov 11, 2008 10:51 am
Yes. I'm back in the States. Found a shitty job for the next 6 months. Hopefully I can move on earlier than that. I'd really like to get the heck out of my parents' place.
wolf • Nov 11, 2008 11:14 am
Outstanding.

From one Master to Another ... practice with me here ...

"Do you want coke and fries with that?"
Juniper • Nov 11, 2008 11:41 am
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

As a current student, I can fully appreciate how much work has gone into this accomplishment.

Good grief, I'm not sure at this point if I'm ever going to finish a BA, much less anything more advanced. (sigh)

I'm so happy for you!
Urbane Guerrilla • Nov 11, 2008 4:34 pm
Huzzah!
DanaC • Nov 11, 2008 6:03 pm
*Beams* You brainy fucker you:P I hope you are really, really proud of yourself. In a way the wobble towards the end makes the distinction even more special. You kept on climbing. I know I'm proud of you. I think it's probably a safe bet to say that the Dwellars en masse are proud of you.

@ Juniper: don't you dare, lady :P You're going to get through that BA, oh yes you are. Because you are a smart chick and you know it. I have every faith in you.

Congrads
Juniper • Nov 11, 2008 9:11 pm
Thanks, Dana.

It's just that when I'm at school I miss being home to do housewifey things and when I'm at home doing housewifey things I miss going to school. Oh well.

I've decided to take the "get it over with" tack, no matter how painful it may be. Full steam ahead!

How do you spot the guy with the PhD in philosophy?

"Do you want fries and/or drinks with that?"
Trilby • Nov 12, 2008 7:52 am
Nice work, PW! I can fully appreciate all the hard work you've done! YAY! Livin' the Dream, baby!

What's the difference between a large pizza and a grad student?

The pizza can feed a family of four.

*smiles* I know it's a tug. I really admire you for it. In many ways I have it very easy as a mature student...I have work commitments, but I don't have family commitments. There are very few calls on my time outside of university that offer a competing and compelling draw on my desires. Other than hedonism ...obviously...a five month addiction to doctor who really was not a sensible, or indeed obvious, choice to make just prior to the final year... :P

Thing is, Perry, you can totally capitalise on (some) Americans having no appreciation of the English University system. I know you have said that Newcastle had a very poor Masters programme, but to most people who read your CV, you've been educated in England! And that's pretty much like being a Rhodes Scholar, right?

Not knocking Americans, just that it's hard to accurately quantify overseas degrees.

BTW you deserve any kudos you get just for sticking it out in the most foreign of English cities and when you were at your lowest ebb.
