On which network will you watch the election results?

Pie • Nov 4, 2008 10:30 am
So, when you're drinking your beer and eating fingerfoods as you watch the election results come in, which network will be on in your house?
lookout123 • Nov 4, 2008 10:50 am
I'll be flying cross country with two little ones so I won't be watching the election. I'm not sure which is more trying though.
glatt • Nov 4, 2008 10:59 am
My wife wants to go to a party hosted by like minded voters. I'm really not interested, but I'll probably do it anyway. They are nice people. At least with kids, we have an excuse to not stay late.
Shawnee123 • Nov 4, 2008 11:00 am
I like Katie Couric, and Bob Schieffer...so CBS for me (also attributed to lack of cable.)

Uh, thanks Pie. I hadn't even thought about having a beer and fingerfood party but I am now! :)
Undertoad • Nov 4, 2008 11:08 am
CNN and John King's giant touch screen.
TheMercenary • Nov 4, 2008 11:11 am
I will surf but tend to watch PBS most of the time.

Well hey at least they eventually calm down. You can't give TV pundits NyQuil no matter how much you want to. Whoever wins there will probably be post-election squabbling over polling issues, etc.
Clodfobble • Nov 4, 2008 12:43 pm
Comedy Central. Their coverage doesn't start until 9:00 Central, but I'll be busy putting the kids to bed before then anyway.
Sundae • Nov 4, 2008 12:45 pm
None!
Tomorrow will be soon enough for me.

For election results in the UK or London I always watch the BBC though.
wolf • Nov 4, 2008 1:35 pm
At work, we only have broadcast television, so I'll watch whatever channel comes in clearest, and obsessively refresh foxnews.com

Once I'm home I'll watch Fox News.

Okay, I'll probably give up and either watch a movie or QVC.

I want to spend those dollars before they get forcibly converted to Ameros.
Cicero • Nov 4, 2008 1:43 pm
Good question. I don't know. Hmmm. I think I'll surf until I think someone has the best coverage going.

Completely forgot about them! I'll definitely be tuning in as soon as they're on!:D
SamIam • Nov 4, 2008 3:07 pm
PBS, CBS, and CNN in that order. I may add Comedy Central now that I know they're covering it. ;)
bartman • Nov 4, 2008 3:17 pm
I'm gonna flip between CNN, FauxNews (just to see how far out of whack either side is) and MSNBC. We also have a local channel that will have local(!) coverage.
Sundae • Nov 4, 2008 6:11 pm
Actually I'm browsing YouTube while waiting for the first results to come in on the BBC website.

For some reason, the saturation coverage here has made me a little bit interested after all.

Meanwhile, there are some David Tennant clips that need my attention...
Elspode • Nov 4, 2008 6:15 pm
*I'm* an ABC fan, partly because the local affiliate's staff politics reporters are very good and have been around for a long time. That said, I'm not sure what the rest of the crowd will demand/request as we are having an election returns party.

There will be a couple of laptops set up for monitoring alternative sources, though. We're kinda ate up with this shit right now.

How can I love you so much when we are so clearly cut from different hunks of political cloth? :3eye:
monster • Nov 4, 2008 7:06 pm
i'll prolly be here and get results online

Opposites attract.
Chocolatl • Nov 4, 2008 9:33 pm
Watched CNN at the bar for a bit, and now that I'm home I'm obsessively refreshing CNN.com. No cable or even broadcast on our tv anymore, so I am relying on the intarwebz.
Cloud • Nov 4, 2008 9:43 pm
switching channels. with my eyes closed.
BigV • Nov 4, 2008 10:41 pm
CNN -- Best coverage, easily. That monster touch screen system is put to excellent use in the hands of those presenters.

CNN Headline News -- It's on the way to the next ones.

CNBC -- The money slant.

MSNBC -- The Anti-Focks.

Fox News -- Sometimes a lie is more dependable than the truth.

Less regularly, C-SPAN, PBS. Very little local coverage. At least not until our polls close. We've a very competitive race for governor this year. Last year it was decided by about 200 votes. Same two leading candidates. We'll see!
Aliantha • Nov 4, 2008 11:06 pm
ABC has just announced Obama as President.
Pie • Nov 4, 2008 11:08 pm
As have CNN, FOX News, The Daily Show, NPR and MSNBC.
DanaC • Nov 4, 2008 11:19 pm
Woot! Awesome. Truly awesome.
xoxoxoBruce • Nov 5, 2008 12:44 am
PBS until it got close, then switched to Faux News to watch them have to spit out the big announcement. :haha:
Cloud • Nov 5, 2008 12:47 am
are Anderson Cooper and Wolf Blitzer the best CNN could do?

They all looked pretty punchy after the speech.
glatt • Nov 5, 2008 10:15 am
I only had broadcast TV channels to choose from, and I found Fox to have the best coverage.

What I wanted to see was the numbers. A key number was the % of precincts reporting and then the second most important number was the percentage of votes for each candidate. Fox news had this information at the bottom of the screen for the entire broadcast, and they left it up there for each state long enough to have a chance to digest it. The other networks either didn't have both pieces of information, or they cycled through the numbers faster than you could read them. Unfortunately, Fox had horrible and distracting graphics all over the rest of the screen, and they kept cutting abruptly from the local affiliate to the national network with no segue. So even they weren't perfect.

I should have just gone online, because then I would have been able to look for the information I wanted to see. When I saw that Ohio went to Obama, I went to bed. I was pleased when I learned in the morning that my state, Virginia, went to Obama too. It's been frustrating to be in the minority here for the 19 years I've lived here.
Pie • Nov 5, 2008 10:17 am
PBS, Comedy Central, and MSNBC (oddly enough!)
TheMercenary • Nov 5, 2008 10:18 am
After Surfing around and finding that PBS did not start soon enough for when I wanted to watch, I flipped between CNN and Fox. Fox by far had the best graphics.
bartman • Nov 5, 2008 10:28 am
I was a little surprised at how good fox's coverage was. Of course, there were a few times that I couldn't take it anymore and had to change the channel.

It's great to know that I live in NC, the new Florida. Not that it matters this time.

Yeah, WTF was up with that? And then PBS was reporting information from Fox. So if PBS was getting its information from Fox, then why should I bother with PBS?
TheMercenary • Nov 5, 2008 10:40 am
I couldn't figure it out and once I saw they were not spot on I never went back to PBS.
DanaC • Nov 5, 2008 12:38 pm
I watched the whole thing on the BBC
TheMercenary • Nov 5, 2008 7:13 pm
God I would love to have the BBC here. Our NPR stations use to carry BBC Radio each night and for some reason they dropped it. Now I can't even catch it on shortwave. I do catch the Aussie version every now and again.
Aliantha • Nov 5, 2008 7:20 pm
That'd be the ABC here. Australian Broadcasting Corporation. ;)
TheMercenary • Nov 5, 2008 7:45 pm
I still love the view of my distant relatives.
