Movin on up...into the mountains

kerosene • Oct 13, 2008 11:27 am
So, Saturday is the official day we get to pack up all our junk and move. Yes, this is an upgrade for us. The current house we live in is about 1100 sq feet with 3 bedrooms and 1 bath. It is nicely finished inside, but much too small...especially in the summer. We found a house that suits our family well and it is farther out of Denver by about 15 miles. Last weekend, we brought some things up to store in the downstairs apartment before the current resident moves.

I will post more pictures during and after the move. I have a to do list right now that is about 4 miles long!

I'm only completely and totally jealous!

Wow!
Cicero • Oct 13, 2008 11:32 am
OOh awesome! I am so jealous! It's great that you guys are getting more space! Any studio room 'round there? You didn't say how much more room you are getting!

Niiice. Is it a large lot? Half an acre? Full acre? Looks so cozy. Look at all that potential firewood around, is there a fireplace? I thinkj that's the best kind of place for kids to grow up in. (not that I know jack squat about kids) But I think they are going to love it.
kerosene • Oct 13, 2008 11:42 am
:)

I am totally overwhelmed with glee about the place.

It is quite a bit more space for us. The main floor and second floor are somewhere around double the space we have now. Plus, the basement is finished out as a 1 bedroom apartment complete with a kitchen and bathroom. I plan to use the apartment for a studio. I would like to hold classes there or even allow for other artists to share the studio with me.

The house has a wood pellet stove, but not a regular fireplace. Still, better than no stove! The property is 6 acres and it is mostly all those pines and aspens.

I forgot this picture...this is a view from the edge of the property. I liked this picture because of the fog that day:

Case, looks nice. Is that a mountain lion behind you in the last picture (first post)?
classicman • Oct 13, 2008 11:48 am
Case that is so great for you - It looks like a dream home!
kerosene • Oct 13, 2008 11:54 am
Could be, HLJ. ;)
kerosene • Oct 13, 2008 11:55 am
Thanks, it really feels like it, actually. This is our dream. :)
Shawnee123 • Oct 13, 2008 11:56 am
PARTY AT CASE'S!

When do you want us there? ;)
kerosene • Oct 13, 2008 11:59 am

lumberjim • Oct 13, 2008 12:00 pm

Shawnee123 • Oct 13, 2008 12:02 pm
Yeah, eff 'em here, I still have vacation time I can use!

See you in a few. :)
HungLikeJesus • Oct 13, 2008 12:03 pm
Did she mention that there's no electricity or internet?
Shawnee123 • Oct 13, 2008 12:04 pm
Just like home!
Cicero • Oct 13, 2008 12:06 pm
6 acres? Criminey!! Wowsers. Niiice! Love it! Love it love it! You must supply photos of the inside sometime...I am so curious now. I bet it's cute in there!!

Oh, and I can clearly see the satellite dishes.:p
Shawnee123 • Oct 13, 2008 12:08 pm
Do you have an ATV, case? That would be sooooo fun!
Cicero • Oct 13, 2008 12:09 pm
ATV? Screw up the acres? NaaaH! Get snow shoes!
kerosene • Oct 13, 2008 1:02 pm
HLJ not far off. There is electricity...internet is satellite. heat is propane and well water. No cell service. :D

We don't have an ATV, but that does sound like fun.

The house is really cute inside. I will get pictures once we start moving in.
Bullitt • Oct 13, 2008 1:08 pm
Very cool.
That looks like my dream house if I was to live in the mountains.

That would be the ATV with optional tillers.
Treasenuak • Oct 13, 2008 5:01 pm
BEAUTIFUL!! Congrats, case, that place looks like a winner!
Sundae • Oct 13, 2008 7:36 pm
Case I left your painting til last before hanging on my wall. It's at the end of my bed so I see it all the time. It reminds me of my beautiful lost cat, the Cellar and at least two special people.

I love the look of your house and I'm so happy you're doing well enough to upgrade. I can't wait for more info.

I hope the move wasn't too painful, but you're set and settled for years now and I wish you much joy.

6 acres?! That's an estate over here! Does it come with a title???
zippyt • Oct 13, 2008 10:29 pm
Princess Case,,,,,,,,,, Sg, DUHHH !!! ;)

Looks like a Patch of heaven !!!

Buy a Good chain saw , with 6 acers of trees you will need it ( well yer hubby will ) , oh and a ATV or an old Jeep , man toys !!!
ZenGum • Oct 14, 2008 12:34 am
I am soooooooo JEALOUS!

I would love to live someplace like that.
kerosene • Oct 14, 2008 10:24 am
Thanks, you guys.

SG, I am so glad that the painting brings happiness for you. Our kids loved that one and were sad when I sent it. I ended up printing copies to hang in their bedrooms.
Chocolatl • Oct 14, 2008 11:55 am
I've never been a big fan of living in the mountains -- too much vertical geography for a Florida girl -- but the place looks beautiful and like something out of a dream. Congrats, case! I hope the move is as smooth and easy and not-back-breaking as can be.
glatt • Oct 14, 2008 11:56 am
Nice digs!
SamIam • Oct 14, 2008 1:14 pm
You couldn't use a live-in maid, could you? Say the word, and I can be there in about 7 hours barring any snow storms en route. :D
kerosene • Oct 14, 2008 3:32 pm
Maid quarters are in the basement ;)

Seriously, though, we could rent the basement apartment out if we want or need to.
Sundae • Oct 14, 2008 3:43 pm
I know it's your work and your imagination that the children are responding to, but the fact they have Dylan on their wall really touches me.
Cicero • Oct 14, 2008 3:43 pm
Oh hai: *packing* ;)

I'll just be the "guest" while we put the finishing touches on your new place. K? Alright see ya in 5 and a half. Get the marshmallows it's time to house-warm.

Can we make the outside look like a structure in the Alps? Can we install planters? Alright. I'll just stay here, then. ;)
kerosene • Oct 14, 2008 4:01 pm
Sundae, that piece is really moving for me, as well. Having created it, I feel that I have a little connection (however remote) to Dyl. Especially since he went missing just when I began the piece. My son loved that painting and was very disappointed that I had to send it, so I explained the story to him. He said "Mom, I am glad you are sending that painting to your friend in England. Maybe she won't miss her kitty so much."

Cic, sounds good! Now you can help me do this.
Sundae • Oct 14, 2008 4:05 pm
It helps me remember how much I loved him, and that's good enough :)
kerosene • Oct 14, 2008 4:08 pm
:) And that makes me happy.
mac_tire_daingean • Oct 14, 2008 4:55 pm
I know this is switching the subject back again but I just read all of this and had a question. The maid quarters are in the basement, Case? Why wasn't I informed of this and who is said maid? :biggrinje
Sundae • Oct 14, 2008 4:59 pm
I'm working on my green card....

Get in line! I've already applied for the maid position. I don't mind a basement, since I figure Case will have me slaving until its time for me to go to bed, so I'll be spending very little time in my room. ;)
BigV • Oct 14, 2008 6:53 pm
Get in line...

But you'll be working for Mac_tire also.

Uh Sam...I believe he has better quarters upstairs. Much better provisions...Better be nice......:p He might throw you a bone if you are good.

Mac I do believe that Sam was first in line for the maid position. But I am coming apparently, to help make the log furniture. Not the maid, just the labor.

So start choppin' mac!
Shawnee123 • Oct 15, 2008 12:33 pm
I volunteer to do ATV tours of your property.

For pay I just need room, board, diet coke, cigs/smokes, and an occasional case of beer.
Cicero • Oct 15, 2008 12:36 pm
For the record, I am less high maintenance than Shawnee. Just show me the couch.

Now if anything goes missing from the fridge it definitely was Shawnee and not me K?
Shawnee123 • Oct 15, 2008 12:37 pm
Wait a minute. HG says I could sleep on a rock! A ROCK! It's true...must be my native American blood. You keep your cushy old couch.

The fridge thing? Probably was me, a victim of late night munchies. ;)

heheee
kerosene • Oct 15, 2008 5:45 pm
Okay, so I think I have this figured out. Sam will get to be the maid. Since she has to clean up after everyone, she gets her own apartment in the basement. (She gets her own bathroom, living room, bdrm and kitchen! Yay!) We have two counches, so Shawnee gets one and Cicero gets the other. Shawnee, the cigs and diet coke are already on hand, so just be sure to leave me some, too. Cic, you are the furniture maker and sales dept. Shawnee, you are the raw material handler. The ATV will serve as a logger, with its chopping attachment (if they can have tiller attachments, surely they can have chopping attachments?) I am the CEO of the outfit and mac_tire will be my personal slave....I mean....assistant.
SamIam • Oct 15, 2008 6:16 pm
Oh, boy! I can't wait! Want references, resume', etc.? Cicero might give me a reference if I gave her a really good bribe. Pretty please, Cice? I promise I'll collect all the diet coke cans the instant they're empty and make sure they get re-cycled. Ash trays wil be emptied as soon as they collect a single butt, and I'll bring my own cigarettes to smoke, so I won't be bumming them off anybody. I also have my own new super duper carpet shampoo-er. I like kids and furniture. When can I start? :)
Cicero • Oct 15, 2008 7:28 pm
Your whole sales department seems to be slacking already. And they're all midgets.

I have a good phone voice.
Shawnee123 • Oct 16, 2008 9:51 am
Sounds great. Now, background check?

I accept mastercard, Amex, Discover, Visa, and money orders. No checks please! Remember, I am the sales department. Oh and if your payment does not clear through paypal or my other systems (the bank) I will not be able to complete the referral transaction. I also would like to see a cover-letter attached to your payment information about your specific qualifications, and 10 other references....And btw, fill out these 20 online surveys about your market interests.

I look forward to hearing from you again regarding the reference and remember, I am here to help! Thanks for your interest in our team.

Cicero is on her way to employee of the month.
Shawnee123 • Oct 16, 2008 1:42 pm
I'm glad I'm just running the physical plant, all that red tape mumbo-jumbo...that's what I'm trying to escape! ;)
Cicero • Oct 16, 2008 2:38 pm
Yea. I'm ambitious. I'm trying to become a partner in less than 2 years, and by my calculations, if I supply enough wood for the beds, I just might get in with the people on top.

Oh, and it would not be ethical for the above statements to be sexual in nature, or innuendo of any sort.:D

Or I'm desparate enough to take "employee of the hour". Your choice. :)
kerosene • Oct 23, 2008 12:59 pm
Cicero I love that picture of you. You are so cute.

BTW, we have moveded. It's gorgeous up here. We had some bears come by for a midnight snack last night. Our landlord left a small fridge outside to be gotten rid of and there was still food in it. A mama bear and her cub came by and made short work of it.
Cicero • Oct 23, 2008 1:12 pm
This was your spirit animal on moving day. (well, saturday in any case)
http://www.cellar.org/showthread.php?t=18455&page=3&highlight=Spirit+animal
I don't know why. So. Don't ask. I'm just odd...which is why you think I am so awesome.

Any chance of some photos after you guys are all unpacked? Any chance of you having some hot chocolate on your porch for me, and by the stove, so I may live vicariously through you? Hmm..ok. I'll just stick to my job in sales.:)

Cic, I'm glad you didn't let on that it was really you and me in bear suits. Remember? You were the cute little one.

Oh, sorry...now we're in trouble.

I'm even more jealous now, case!

OMG! I turn my back for a mere few days and we now have a whole army of volunteers/partners/slaves. I must spend less time in the jacuzzi and start paying more attentions to the progression of these well laid plans. :3eye:

Oh on top of all that they have a jacuzzi now too, wtf. Alright, back to packing.
mac_tire_daingean • Oct 24, 2008 5:50 pm
jacuzzi is in the master bath. :-) You know...steam up in the jacuzzi with the jets until you can barely breath..then run out into the 5 degree weather...then run back into the tub?
