Mine is the CROW. (that is, currently)
Not an exciting answer, but probably the good old reliable dog.
If by "favorite" I include some substantive criteria, other than "looks cool" etc.
I doubt his existence, [color=white]. . . [/color]as stated.

My "current" favorite would have to include an electric eel. ;)
An all-time favorite is a star-nosed mole but it's hard to pare down the roster to just one.

Have to be the cat, sorry.
Although the pig runs a close second because there's just so much you can do with them. Mostly after they're dead of course.
currently, I'd have to say the Bald Eagle. But that probably won't last long because I bet they are messy.
There are too many to choose from so I think I'll split mine into categories:
Domestic:
Dogs, cats, and horses (can't just have one)
Exotic Domestic:
Snakes
Domestic I don't want to ever own but look at:
Pygmy goats, llamas and ducks
Wild:
Wolves, bobcats, rabbits, falcons and armadillos
Wild exotic:
Lions, koalas, jaguar, ocelot, birds of paradise, aye aye and osterich
Sea:
Sharks, jellyfish, octopus, and stingrays
Other:
Spiders, praying mantis, ladybugs (all "good bugs")
There are so so many more, this was hard enough to narrow it down to! There aren't many animals I don't like, none in fact.
My favorite animal is currently the water bear. These guys can survive boiling water. They can survive the vacuum of space. They can survive being frozen in liquid nitrogen. They live everywhere. And they have a plan.

I suspect after dinner I'll be back to one of my regulars -dragon, cat, Thor, beest's willy.... I'll let you know which when it's current rather than future. unless it's the last option, or I fall asleep in front of the tv.
It's hard to chose a favourite.
So here are a few thoughts with reasons.
Dogs and cats, of course, because they can from social bonds with humans, fairly intelligent and friendly.
Chameleons, because some of them fight by flashing bright colour changes at each other. Some squid do that too.
Koalas and wombats - endearingly cute, but otherwise not much.
Eagles and owls - I wish could transform into one at will (and back, though).
Bacon!

in general- any member of the felid clan is a friend of mine.

[there are a handful of favorite animals as well tho: fox, wolf, snakes. But they're just animals I like. Dogs are necessary to my happiness and general well-being :P)

I’d been casting around a bit, looking for a new direction in my career, and one afternoon when I was out on my walk I happened to see some crows fly by. One of them landed on a telephone wire just above my head. I looked at him for a moment, and then on impulse I made a skchhh noise with my teeth and lips. He seemed to like that; I saw his tail make a quick upward bobbing motion at the sound. Encouraged, I made the noise again, and again his tail bobbed. He looked at me closely with one eye, then turned his beak and looked at me with the other, meanwhile readjusting his feet on the wire. After a few minutes, he cawed and flew off to join his companions. I had a good feeling I couldn’t put into words. Basically, I thought the meeting had gone well, and as it turned out, I was right. When I got home there was a message from the crows saying I had the job.
That first interview proved indicative of the crows’ business style. They are very informal and relaxed, unlike their public persona, and mostly they leave me alone. I’m given a general direction of what they want done, but the specifics of how to do it are up to me. For example, the crows have long been unhappy about public misperceptions of them: that they raid other birds’ nests, drive songbirds away, eat garbage and dead things, can’t sing, etc.—all of which is completely untrue once you know them. My first task was to take these misperceptions and turn them into a more positive image. I decided the crows needed a slogan that emphasized their strengths as a species. The slogan I came up with was Crows: We Want to Be Your Only Bird.™ I told this to the crows, they loved it, and we’ve been using it ever since...
Crows: We Want to Be Your Only Bird.™ I think this slogan is worth repeating, because there’s a lot behind it. Of course, the crows don’t literally want (or expect) to be the only species of bird left on the planet. They admire and enjoy other kinds of birds and even hope that there will still be some remaining in limited numbers out of doors as well as in zoos and museums. But in terms of daily usage, the crows hope that you will think of them first when you’re looking for those quality-of-life intangibles usually associated with birds. Singing, for example: Crows actually can sing, and beautifully, too; so far, however, they have not been given the chance. In the future, with fewer other birds around, they feel that they will be.

play with their foodI love the cat family, ALL cats. My favorite is probably the leopard, although really, it isn't, because I love them all. I love raptors, and also ravens and crows and hummingbirds. I love wolves and foxes and dogs, especially wolf-like dogs like huskies and malamutes, but I also love pit bulls and chows and just dogs in general. I love horses. They are so regal. I love squirrels. They make me happy. They are so entertaining to watch. I love snakes. I love cuddly-looking animals like koala bears and sun bears, and I love polar bears. I love goats. They are so damn cute. I love elephants. I love otters. They are so fun-loving. And I love dolphins. They are also fun-loving, and curious, and friendly. Basically, I just animals, ALL animals. If I had to pick a favorite, it would be the cat family.

When I watch lions/tigers/leopards/jaguars/panthers/cougars on Discovery or PBS I see all the traits of my Slick. When I watch my Slick, I see all the traits of those lions/tigers/leopards/jaguars/panthers/cougars. It's so cool. I like dogs, but they have no such comparable larger types. Wolves are close, but they aren't 500-1000 lbs. (But WOW, if they were!) I can't think of another animal to make a similar comparison.
